RNC Debate Commission: No Leftie Moderators
BREITBART TEXAS ^ | 1 Jun 2014 | by BOB PRICE

HOUSTON, Texas—The Republican National Committee (RNC) has proposed major changes for the upcoming 2016 Presidential Primary Debates. The changes include reducing the number of debates and getting rid of the left-of-center moderators like George Stephanopoulos and Chris Matthews.

The proposal passed by a vote of 152-7 according to Republican Party of Texas (RPT) Chairman Steve Munisteri. In a newsletter sent out to Republican activists and delegates in the run-up to next week’s RPT state convention, which will be held in Fort Worth June 5-7, Munisteri reported that he and the two Texas Republican National Committee Members, Dr. Robin Armstrong and Toni Anne Dashiell, voted in support of the proposal.

“I did so,” Chairman Munisteri stated, “because I felt there were two major problems with debate process last cycle. The first problem I had was that there were too many debates which resulted in the airwaves being filled with our candidates blasting at each other on a regular basis.”

Debates should discuss the issues of the day, not get sidetracked

The story of the entire 2012 campaign.

Good point. The moderators, through their questions, can steer the discussion into areas which are not part of the issues which a president would deal with, if elected. And this should not happen again.

There also needs to be “batter’s box” debates, of people who might be candidates, but who are instead “kingmakers” and “idea people”.

And the purpose of these debates would not be to argue with each other, but to publicly chart the course for a better future.

Since they are not running for office, they can wax at length about major issues, one at a time. Say a panel of five, with each getting 10 minutes to have their say, with 10 minutes for administrative purposes.

Ideally, these debates would be streamed on the Internet for free, then a collection of the debates would be offered on DVD.

Oddly enough, they wouldn’t even need to be in the same room, but could take their time to do their 10 minute segment, with retakes and editing until they are satisfied with the results. They could even have quality graphics to visually describe what they mean on complex subjects.

He definitely coordinated with the Obama campaign with that line of questioning. It was right after that debate that it was announced that free birth control was in Obama are.

For the last two election cycles, I have gotten the impression that the Republican campaign managers were Democrat ringer sent to screw the Republicans and throw the election

Finally, the RNC grows a pair.

But, they have to maintain this policy for the debates between the Democrat and Republican Presidential candidates. It's stupid to allow openly partisan moderators, period. Of course, that accounts for almost the entire kneepad media.

Personally, I think they should do away with human moderators altogether. Let each campaign submit a series of questions, and alternate between the lists.

Allow each candidate one 2-minute answer and one 30-second followup. When time runs out, the microphone is shut off. The candidate can signify they are done by pressing a button, and the remaining time will be credited to their next opportunity to speak.

These "debates" are nothing but a series of prepared speeches anyway, so let the candidates make them.

For every left of center moderator, there should be a right of center.

I’ve been screaming about this for 12 years. Finally a small weensy attempt is made. Let’s see if they follow through.

I don’t mind a whole debate with a leftie as long as there is a whole debate with a Rush Limbaugh.

Who could forget debate season? It’s target practice on conservatives for the msm again.

Miscellaneous thoughts:

In case anyone has forgotten, before it was happily cancelled, the first GOP of the 2012 cycle was supposed to be sponsored by NBC/MSNBC, and held at the Reagan Library..I couldn't believe it when I first saw it scheduled.

I agree with going to a shorter number of debates, but they also have to find a way to cull the herd after the first few.One thought..if you can't crack 5% support in the RCP average after each debate..then goodbye...

Also, moderators must swear NOT to ask questions that call for one word answers, or a show of hands..

I would love to see them get Rush to host a debate on his radio show...it can be aired lived on TV and rebroadcast later on..3 hours..limited commercials...them all sitting around a table..let Rush have at them...draw them out. It would be riveting..

“That’s right Big Mama (Crowley), tell the bad man that I did so say Benghazi was terrorism from the start,” cried little Barry, cowering behind Big Mama Crowley.

The Pubs have to not fall for backdrops as being the only conservative thing at the debate. Msnbc moderators and Reagan library does not equal a fair debate situation! Lol.

Agree with your other suggestions.

I hope the RNC has some approximation of b@lls and refuses all debates where there is no moderator from the actual right. (Unless matched by another debate with a Strong Conservative mod.)

Do away with moderators, except to enforce time limits. The question would come from the opposing candidate.

There was one debate that was nearly like this. It was the best presidential debate I’d ever seen in my lifetime.

No Leftie Moderators?

What? Like Candy Crowley interjecting and aiding Obama with pre-planned debate tactics?

Sheesh. This should have been a no-brainer from the get-go. Romney should have known he was walking into a trap.

Romney trusted his campaign advisers.

He hired Democrat leaning campaign advisors in an attempt to lure independents and Democrats.

These advisers were ringers who screwed him. It's not for nothing that they all jumped ship and rejoined the Democrats after the election.

Romney's advisers knew full well he was walking into a trap and encouraged him to do so.

Mark Steyn would work too.

Levin could cause involuntary mincturation on stage. I’d advise candidates to wear a catheter and tape a bag to your ankle like truck drivers do.
