Looking back at D-Day on Fridays 70th anniversary of the Allied invasion, many of us know the event that changed the course of WWII only through such great films as The Longest Day. But a number of Hollywood stars as well as stars in other fields were actually part of the forces that stormed the beaches of Normandy. Here are a few of the heroes:

He was not a star and was unknown to anyone beyond his family and small circle of friends in Philadelphia...my beloved Father-in-love, Charles H. McCullough, was one of the many thousands of unsung heroes.
Oh,I get it..."horn broken,watch for finger".We don't do that kind of thing in my neck of the woods so it's pretty unfamiliar to me. ;-)
my dad was on a repair ship off shore.
My uncle Al (RIP) drove landing craft into Normandy. He did the same in the N Africa, Sicily, and Italy invasions. He never traveled after that, staying in the small town of his birth. I guess he had seen enough.
Also actor Richard Todd was with the British airborne/glider troops that took & held the Ourne river bridge.
