Michelle Obama has largely ignored unflattering critiques of her physical appearance, often tinged with racial overtones, that have been lobbed by people who apparently still have not accepted the fact that African Americans inhabit the White House. At a memorial service Saturday for poet Maya Angelou, who died last week at age 86, Obama offered revealing insights about how she and other black women sometimes define their beauty in the context of the larger societys standards. The first time I read Phenomenal Woman, I was struck by how she celebrated black womens beauty like no one had ever dared to before. Our curves, our stride, our strength, our grace. Her words were clever and sassy; they were powerful and sexual and boastful. And in that one singular poem, Maya Angelou spoke to the essence of black women, but she also graced us with an anthem for all women a call for all of us to embrace our God-given beauty. And, oh, how desperately black girls needed that message. As a young woman, I needed that message. As a child, my first doll was Malibu Barbie. That was the standard for perfection. That was what the world told me to aspire to. But then I discovered Maya Angelou, and her words lifted me right out of my own little head. The first lady went on to say that Angelous empowering message has motivated her through school, career and family challenges throughout her life, words so powerful that they carried a little black girl from the South Side of Chicago all the way to the White House. Beauty is more than skin deep, especially for women of color. Whether we are seen as beautiful can have a huge impact on how we are treated, protected and loved

I guess. Not sure.
The Obamas are obsessed with race.
The obama’s are so concerned about how they look. Wonder why? The skinny ass with the big ears actually thinks he’s handsome. The truth is... their ugliness comes from within.
I love Mr. Ed!
BARF. UP. A. LUNG.
“Maya Angelou” got rich on her story, enabled by a fawning chattering class....not on her talent.
And Obama got to be president by the same fawning chattering class...not his anything!
“Beauty is more than skin deep, especially for women of color”.
That’s very true. But the expression that “Ugly goes all the way to the bone” is also very true; especially for the Wookie.
1. Michelle O is incapable of learning anything.
2. Neither one seems to harbor even a remote chance of having beauty.
My mom loved watching Sanford & Son. Aunt Esther told Fred that her beauty was inside. Fred told her she should put her liver where her face was. My mother thought that was hysterical.
I feel the same way about Moochelle.
I voted for Herman Cain in the primary. Vanessa Williams can kiss my @$$.
I would vote for Tim Scott, Herman Cain again, DEFINITELY Allen West, maybe Ben Carson, and Mia Love if given the chance. Again - Vanessa Williams - kiss my @$$.
You seem to be saying that black women are uglier than white. Whatever. It's all opinion, I guess. Like fat guys are uglier than thin, bald guys uglier than the haired.
Whatever. I, frankly, don't care about Michelle's personal looks. She can't help that and it doesn't matter.
I can't stand her because of how she behaves, what she represents, and the policies she supports.
My objection to trash in the WH has no racial bounds....I objected as much to Herself! as a trashy First Lady as I do the present occupant.
I think you are seriously projecting your own “things” onto others here. Just because you may have certain preferences doesn’t mean everyone else shares in them.
I agree with Lizavetta. If Michelle Obama was not such a nasty person, we wouldn’t think she was so nasty. She is ugly on the outside because she is ugly on the inside.
She is so ugly on the inside it bubbles up to the surface
I totally agree. It really isn’t about the skin color but the Obamas refuse to accept that.
FUBO
FUMO
It sounds like you have the rest our your sentence in your mind.
Your powers of observation leave me breathless.
