A senior intelligence official with intimate knowledge of the years-long effort to locate and rescue Bergdahl told the Washington Free Beacon that the details of that exchange do not add up.
The official, who requested anonymity because he is not authorized to speak to the press, speculated that a cash ransom was paid to the Haqqani Network to get the group to free the prisoner.
The Obama administration reportedly considered offering cash for his release as late as December 2013. The State Department has repeatedly refused to say whether the deal that released Bergdahl involved any cash payment.
The ransom plan was reportedly abandoned, but the intelligence official insisted that there is reason to believe that cash changed hands as part of the deal.
The Haqqanis could give a rats ass about prisoners, the official said, referring to the Haqqani Network, a designated terrorist group in Afghanistan and Pakistan, and the five Guantanamo Bay prisoners who were freed in exchange for Bergdahls release.

It is excellent. I thought of reposting the Hastings piece in Rolling Stone, but it had already been posted several times.
There's a lot more to this matter than has been released by our transparent administration.
I was as usual, being Highly Facetious!
hes a muslim through and through
I think you have the wrong consonant. That should be a b, not an m.
This is the most logical explanation for all the hyperbole/CYA I’ve read yet. But it still doesn’t explain how they so badly miscalculated. I still think some info was withheld from pertinent officials. Time will tell...
Think about that one for a while. (He IS a democRAT after all!)
Maybe Bergdahl was considered ....WORTHLEsS, and the money was for the support of the “five” in Qatar for a year with a broker’s fee to the H. network. Having the US paying jizya and releasing prisoners at the same time is a more Islamic way of looking at the “exchange”.
You know it doesn’t add up when even Diane refuses to stand by the party line.
I suspect the only link is Bergdahl was merely the cover for something very, very sinister. The WH had put the deserter on the back burner years ago so a violation of the Constitution by a hush hush rushed "rescue" wasn't on their radar. The big question is what was so BIG that hussein himself had to suddenly sneak off to have a face to face with them? Who exactly did he HAVE to meet who couldn't come to the US or be seen entering the WH? What did hussein give away to our enemy that he couldn't risk having the NSA know about? Any money could have been sent by some lowly aide. Any deal making could have been done over the phone by a Congressional committee, the Pentagon, or some WH staffer. The outing of the CIA dude could also have been handled over the phone by a staffer or a quick email. No, something much bigger than Bergdahl went down and America will be paying for it dearly.
Five billion.
Just because the Democrats gave the Haqqanis money doesn’t mean the Haqqanis wouldn’t also take money from the Taliban or Al Qaeda in this deal.
That’s one of the really scary things. It won’t just be our political enemies kidnapping Americans. Every two-bit criminal in the world will now be looking to kidnap an American to get money from us AND Al Qaeda.
The really clever trick is that Al Qaeda is using American money to buy back their friends thanks to Hillary and Obama.
5 terrorists and cash with other players to be named later — all for a loser that they were dying to get rid of.
Ok.
Thanks for that. Peachy.
Figures.
$6 Billion.. That’s the amount ‘missing’ from the State Department. Or maybe money from ‘THE FUND’ Obamadullah just announced for terrorism. FOR TERRORISTS more like it.
Five taliban and Bergdahl ping.
