A Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer has amassed a collection of stunning photographs that illustrate the plight of Central American immigrants as they make the dangerous journey as they attempt to cross the U.S.-Mexico border in search of a better life. Illegal immigration has become a hot-button issue in the United States as millions of immigrants try to cross the border illegally in search of employment and a better life for their families. Because of the complex nature of the debate, photographer John Moore says he tried to approach the issue 'in as many ways possible' by 'putting a human face on the issue. An estimated 11.7 million people currently are living in the country illegally - and in fear of being deported back to their native countries. Many of these immigrants come from Central American countries like Guatemala, Honduras and Costa Rica. In many cases, these migrants risk their lives crossing through unforgiving, desert terrain on their way to the United States.

This photographer is attempting to establish the narrative of the illegal immigrant as a victim of cruel and unjust American immigration policy. The message is clear - “amnesty” is the only “moral” thing for America to do.
Images are extremely powerful - the flag raising on Iwo Jima, the Dust Bowl, the lines of unemployed waiting outside soup kitchens during the Great Depression. Now, the “desperate” immigrant just wanting a better life.
Of course, there is a certain amount of truth to that narrative, and it’s an terribly emotional truth - but, as we all know, we cannot base policy simply on emotion.
The photographer will probably be very successful because our society is so visually oriented, not thinking oriented, not principle oriented.
So why doesn’t the photographer help those people establish a better life in their own country. Why do they have to uproot and move away from everything they’ve ever known? Why do the liberals not help them fix their country?
What is particularly galling to me is that they get free medical care in the ER (federal programs pick up some of the cost and the rest is written off), yet after my recently uninsured 61-year-old husband went to the ER for the first time in his adult life, he got a bill for over $3000 that he’s expected to pay in full. We are currently living on one income but make too much to receive help from any govt programs. I’m beyond pissed with this ridiculous illegal immigration situation!
I found the numbers startling. I am also wondering how much foreign aid we are providing to these South American countries?

Totally agree. As others have said, why not deliver them to doorstep of every president or congressman who supports amnesty?
I am sorry about your husband’s Er experience. Yes, it is also galling to me that we are now spending $250/day per unaccompanied child and housing them on military bases...it is spreading to bases farther inland. I hope people start to realize the gravity of the situation :(
My sympathy card filled up a long time ago. I just dont care about the hardships. I care in the fact that we are being invaded by illiterate people that their own countries dont want. Why? Because they are a burden on the system. Hello Congress?
Also they are driving the wages down in this country. Why pay an american citizen 15.00 per hour when you can pay an illegal 8.00 an hour. This is becoming such a disaster there is going to come a point where we cannot fix this.
Now parents are sending their children as young as 5 years old alone on this journey. And now we have to house them.
At this point I am just at a loss.
Haven’t looked at the pictures, but I doubt they have any where the illegal aliens are carrying (smuggling) backpacks of dope into the US as a way to pay the cartel coyotes, you know, breaking criminal laws in behalf of those safe, nice kind warm loving criminal drug organizations.
” I care in the fact that we are being invaded by illiterate people that their own countries dont want. . .”
Also, add ‘disease-ridden’ to that description. Resurgence of third-world diseases in the US are a direct result of illegals that come here without any immunizations and arrive to spew their vile diseases on the American public, too include school children. Would anyone want their child in school sitting next to an illegal alien disease factory?
capture them , impress them , put them to work .
It is not often that a potentially cost free labor force voluntarily shows up .
How’d they get across the CA to Mexico border. The southern Mexico border is way tighter than ours.
“capture them , imprison them, put them to work”. . .building the border fence.
I thought of that as well. I am just so disgusted and feel powerless. I am not angry with the people who are coming, but I am very angry with our so called. leaders.
It is as if no body is really in charge and they are just winging it. Very scary.
Here is an article that’s on Drudge right now. Outside of Drudge, I am not seeing/hearing anything about this...
