This month, the court will decide three more direct challenges to Obama's policies in which Alito's vote will be key. The justices will rule on whether the president exceeded his authority in making recess appointments and whether his environmental regulators went too far by requiring permits for new power plants to show they are reducing greenhouse gases.
And in the most far-reaching case, the high court will decide whether business owners have a religious-freedom right to refuse to pay for contraceptives for female employees, as required under the president's healthcare law.
With Alito, the court has become a check on the White House, much like then-Sen. Obama called for in 2006 when he joined an unsuccessful filibuster against Alito's confirmation. "We need a court that is independent," Obama said one that "is going to provide some check on the executive branch."

Given that each justice’s vote is equal to the others’, why single out Alito?
The answer is twofold:
1) Alinskyite isolate, freeze, etc. of someone they don’t like.
2) The liberal justices have never and will never evaluated cases on their merit and have never and will never read and apply the Constitution when they can freely substitute their own crackpot ideas. Therefore they are ‘dog bites man’ news stories.
It is interesting that they’re focused on Justice Alito. Is he typically the swing vote on these sorts of cases? I don’t think so. Of course, this article is from the heavily politicized Los Angeles Times, so that reveals much.
Actually, they are singling him out because he was “moderate” Sandra Day O’Connor’s replacement. It’s all wishful thinking, nostalgically wishing she was still casting the vote.
You beat me to it. In general, you can count on Alito to do the right thing. Can we say the same for Roberts?
The LA Times doesn't care much for Justice Alito. It's not that he is too driven by ideology, it's that he is not driven by their ideology. They love justices who think and act just like them even if they are just a step above a potted plant. Alito does not agree with them and supports his opinions with sound legal reasoning firmly grounded on the Constitution. He gores all of their sacred cows like affirmative action and the destruction of religious life. They do not like Justice Alito one bit and they are not at all happy that he is holding the conservative court together.
——why single out Alito?——
He apparently is considered to be wishy washy, not rigidly adhering to the party line
If Republican appointees to the SCOTUS would vote the party line as rigidly as the Democrat appointees vote theirs, that doofus, Roberts, would not have “deemed” ObamaCare a tax out of thin air and that disaster would have been avoided.
However, blackmail works, even when the Chief Justice is involved. Hopefully, Alito is as sinless as Jesus Christ.
If Republican appointees to the SCOTUS would vote the party line as rigidly as the Democrat appointees vote theirs, that traitor, Roberts, would not have “deemed” ObamaCare a tax out of thin air, and that disaster would have been rightly declared unconstitutional.
However, apparently blackmail works, even when a Chief Justice of the Supreme Court is involved. Hopefully, Alito is as sinless as Jesus Christ.
Not quite sure, but you can bet the Dems have a strategy in place for why.
Obama has "something" on Roberts. The public isn't aware of it...yet, but whatever it is, it will certainly influence Roberts' decisions.
Here comes more blackmail.
This is were we will see who makes the decisions of the SCOTUS...the judges or NSA files.
Kennedy is the”Swinger”!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why yes, yes we can. It wouldn't be accurate, but we can say it anyway, like we did when everyone except me and a few others here who knew he would not kill ACA.
The problem won’t be Alito, it will be KENNEDY.
And so it begins...the push to get Holder on the Supreme Court.
Such an article will not convey any points of substance and is sure to be pure propaganda.
It really doesn’t matter, American Constitutional law has already gone to hell with the Obamacare mandate. The minor details of the President’s increasingly arbitrary power makes little difference in how Rome burns to the ground. Rome will burn, the federal employees in black robes have all but seen to that.
Even an honorable federal court system could not prevent tyranny with the mass of unmanageable power they have already rubber stamped into the hands of their equally lawless masters.
That a man must go to court to secure his rights from the now unaccountable number of threats Washington has been empowered to thrust upon him is enough to bankrupt all but the wealthiest and most secure among us. Thus the same effect in compelling submission to tyranny whether the Federal employees should side with their appointing masters or not.
