I personally think the sugar-sweetened version is pretty much tantamount to poison, depending on how much of it you consume. I like the aspartame-sweetned carbonated drinks myself; in fact, I'm very fond of them. Let every individual decide for himself.

Lots of people use Coca Cola as an energy drink, because with the sugar and caffeine it can really pick you up. So far as the calories are concerned, they're all a part of your total caloric intake, and don't need to be seen in isolation. My caloric needs, for example are about 2400 per day. So long as I'm under that, it doesn't matter what I eat or drink; I'll be losing weight. The idea that if you drink a coke and don't pointedly do something to "work it off" you'll retain the calories, is nonsense.
