(Reuters) - The already conservative Texas Republican Party took a further turn to the right at its convention this weekend by adopting hardline positions on issues including immigration and gay rights. The conservative Tea Party branch of the party, led by U.S. Senator Ted Cruz and carrying great weight in the state, was able to shoot down a 2012 party policy known as the “Texas Solution" that would allow undocumented workers to hold jobs that go unfilled by U.S citizens.

"Like never before, our freedom is under assault. Again today, Texans will stand up and lead the fight to defend our freedom," Cruz said.

“If I owned Texas and Hell, I would rent out Texas and live in Hell" ― Philip Henry Sheridan

I live in Texas.... I'm not sure the General didn't have the right idea. It's starting to get hot down here.

"But accept that there is no painless path to purging RINOs in a timely manner that could begin to fix this mess."

Absolutely right but there are another facts that are sometimes very difficult to face: conservatives must stand together and remain resolute to tackle this dicey effort, for there are way too many personalities involved for the process to always run smoothly, which can make the road very bumpy.

Some want merely to be the next "leader and feather their own nest," and become power players in the process.

There are others who are either too weak or too ignorant to stand up against the slick-talking RINOs, claiming to "bring peace and unity within the party!"

BS to this tactic, the desire for "party unity" or "peace" comes at a cost: conservative principles!

When this happens, it takes will power to tell the "weak sisters" they must quit standing in the way of reform!

Refusing to stand firm against "soft liberalism" is like parents who'd rather be their child's friend rather than stand up to them, say, "No, I'm the adult, you're the child, so that makes me in charge not you!"

Which is why we must purge the enemy within as well. Hamilton said it, Reagan said it. All the Conservative ‘idols’ have said it. Without principle you have nothing. Compromise them and you become the people you claim to oppose.

All the little disgruntled GOP sycophants can scream all they want. It’s the truth and we should rub their nose it it until they either comply or leave.

Quote Reagan, “Let them go their own way.”

And that's just the Republicans. You should see what the conservatives are saying...

LOL!

Stop calling them “gay rights,” ever! They are nothing more than hono-fascism.

I'm not sensing much compromise there, Norm.

Not even killing just a few babies?

Well I suppose we COULD trade a few dead babies like some Freepers wanted last election to get Romney.

I suppose....Not. Such is my supposition. I am after all, a purist. But Johnny, I am a fair man and can in fact compromise. I am willing to trade said ...ahem...”freepers”... for said babies since they are leftists anyway. Their abortion in place of the babies they would have so pragmatically traded would trouble me little.

I lied. It wouldn’t trouble me in the slightest.

Conservatives need a common sense platform. It’s self-evident that men and women go together, not two men or two women, but we’ve let government teachers and radical advocate groups convince us that we’ve had it all wrong.

"The YOUNG Republicans who think they are conservative, but are teetering on the edge, are also a concern."Most "young Republicans" have never met real conservatives, except perhaps in their own family, whom they discard.

Unfortunately, they have spent 8 hours a day, 9 months a year for 12 years, being groomed to be liberals and they know nothing else.

Evolution = fact; global warming = fact; polar bear nearing extinction = fact; incandescent light bulbs a danger = fact, illegal aliens must be given citizenship = fact; marriage must be extended to people of same sex to be fair = fact, etc. that they've been spoon fed for years in public schools, as promised by the nation's educators.

Perhaps they can work to repeal the in-state tuition for foreign barbarian invaders law.
