ROANOKE, Virginia — There’s no doubt Ed Gillespie is the underdog in the Virginia Senate race.

He’s polled well behind the man he’s trying to unseat, Democrat Mark Warner. The incumbent is the richest member of the Senate and a well-liked figure in the state. Meanwhile, many Virginians still don’t know who Gillespie is.

But Gillespie, a former Republican National Committee chairman, is an old hand at campaigns. And now that he’s the candidate, he insists he can pull off the upset.

“I assure you I have never analyzed a race more carefully than this one, and it’s a very winnable race,” the 52-year-old said after nabbing his party’s nomination at a convention this weekend.

Because he ran the RNC, he by default is a GOPe Rovian RINO.

And Mark Warner is a liberal hack. Take your pick.

Its like choosing between a firing squad or the hangman's noose.

Gillespie is more conservative than many on this website give him credit for. He is a practicing Catholic and has won over the conservative activists I work with.

Whatever.

Until and unless, Ed steps up and reaches out to the constitutionalists, I will vote in November but I will leave the Senate vote blank and just vote on the rest of the downballot races.

The amount of vitriol leveled at the Tea Party and libertarians in the wake of his win yesterday is disgusting. It’s bad enough that constitutionalists have to deal with the left but the anger and hate heaped on us by our own party is very distressing. Ed needs to be a leader and mend the rift. Otherwise, it’s PUMA time.

And the control of the Senate hangs in the balance as well. Ed is still much better than Mark Warner.

The idiocy of some posters here still astound me, even after all these years.

Tim Kaine and Nancy Pelosi are “practicing” Catholics. I’m sorry. But with all due respect, that argument is not strong enough to change the optics for me.

Warner supported Obama like 98% of the time..If Gillespie can make that an issue in the race..he’s got a chance. That, and Obamacare, and the new EPA regs..it’s a viable contest..especially when the polling starts to narrow, as it will

Used to be a Virginia voter, and worse, was born in the People’s Socialist Utopian Republic of Fairfax County. If I still was there, I’d leave the ballot blank for that office, effectively NOTA.

“The best way to ensure the repeal of a bad law is to insist on its enforcement.” Same with RATs: Give them to the voters until their communities collapse, and beyond. Don’t allow Dem-LITE RINOs — part of the same crowd, only moving at only a slightly slower pace.

GOPe RINOs controlled the Senate, House, & POTUS for six years under Bush43, and what did we get: The fastest and widest growth of govt., deficits, and debt in U.S. history...until the Marxist-Muzzie fairy who currently occupies the White House. No thanks.

He’s a blank slate and I would give him the benefit of the doubt that he is a vote against Obamacare. Not like Thad Cochran here is Mississippi that has had forty years to show you where his allegiances lie

Yeah, and Drudge headline right now says Illegals pouring into the U.S. And soldiers dying for deserter Bergdahl. People equated Romney with Obama and refused to vote.

Right back at you. Even worse than liberals are “so called” conservatives that don’t care if Democrats win.

Gillespie is a step in the right direction. Warner is a liberal disaster. I would vote for Gillespie if I lived in Virginia.
