Taliban swapped for Bergdahl could be drone targets, Kerry indicates

Secretary of state John Kerry has indicated that five Guantánamo Bay detainees released in exchange for an American soldier could be killed by drone strike if they return to the battlefield in Afghanistan.

Kerry’s implied threat to the five Taliban fighters came as Republicans ramped-up their criticism of the deal to release Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl, a prisoner of the Taliban for five years until he was freed last week.

The 28-year-old soldier has reportedly told medical staff at a base in Germany he was tortured and beaten by his captors, and once locked in a metal cage in total darkness as punishment for an attempted escape.

On Sunday, it emerged that the FBI is investigating death threats against Bergdahl’s parents, who have not reacted publicly to the intense political debate raging over the wisdom of trading five Guantánamo detainees for their son.

Republicans highlight the possibility that the Taliban fighters, some of whom were senior commanders, are likely to return to the Afghan conflict after the year they are compelled to stay in Qatar, which brokered the prisoner swap and has promised to monitor the five men.

However, Kerry told CNN the men were also being closed monitored by the US, which had "the ability to do things" if the terms of the arrangement with Qatar were violated. Although he did not overtly refer to drone strikes, he said the five men would be liable to be killed by the US if they returned to the ranks of the Taliban....

Kerry says, “OK, OK, they deserve death but we let them go because they promised to behave.”?
Got it.
You can’t make this stuff up ...

They should kill them now in Doha. It could be done covertly and we would deny any knowledge of it. Blame it on the new Afghan government.

Using the Administration's logic, our personnel would be in no greater danger than they are now.

This is one of the attributes I dislike the most about liberals. They NEED to brag about what they’re planning to do .. in order to get attention; and appear important.

And .. now that they’ve told the enemy what they’re planning to do .. anybody want to guess what the terrorists are planning ..?????????

These people in office are such children .. it’s really frightening.

There’s a cheaper way to handle this.
Just release some intelligence harmful
to the Taliban and claim the obama five blabbed.

I’ll bet the five terrorists had terminal guidance chips embedded in their anus when they weren’t looking. Once they get back on the battlefield we can launch a missile and take them out immediately.

My first thought was that this trade was only acceptable if we had surreptitiously planted tracking devices in the five with plans of droning them with numerous mates sometime in the future.

Then again, I expected (hoped) to hear of a multitude of secretive hit squads put into action against various “cells” after 9/11.

Yup..he (Obama) gave his word to those people and by doing this (possibly attacking the freed Gitmo Five) he risks inviting retaliation of unknown proportions from the Talibani and associated groups possibly on American soil.

There was talk when 911 happened that it was partially in retaliation for some oil deals GWB did before he became president. If these five and Qatar adhere to the silly agreement where they promise to live a totally subsidized life of leisure for one year and that's it, then they're attacked, I'd think the anger in the mideast would be uncontrollable.

Already, with some of this tough talk after-the-fact, there have been attacks at a Pakistani airport and on an Afghani presidential candidate.
