Putin's Plan to Control Ukraine

The democratic election of Petro Poroshenko is a good sign that Ukraine is on the path toward real reform, but so far there is no reason to believe that Putin and his agents in eastern Ukraine will respect the elections and cease their efforts to destabilize Ukraine’s delicate political balance.

Just days before the election, Alexandr Dugin, a Russian political theorist with many fans in the Kremlin (Putin reputedly among them), wrote a blog post titled “The Birth of New Russia” describing his vision for the region in southeastern Ukraine currently wracked by separatist violence.

In his post, Dugin rails against the “Jewish oligarchs,” “pro-American liberals,” and “Catholics, Protestants, and Schismatics” who he imagines are conspiring to oppress ethnic Russians in Ukraine.

Bizarrely, he describes separatist forces as engaged in “war with liberal Nazis.”

Dugin declares that “The battle for New Russia [southeastern Ukraine] as a special historical-political entity with fundamental meaning is the next phase of the geopolitical drama of Ukraine.”

With this statement Dugin reveals the Kremlin’s phased strategy to keep Ukraine chained to Russia and unable to pursue its democratically demonstrated desire for European integration. Or as he calls it, the “geopolitical drama of Ukraine.”

Phase one was backing Viktor Yanukovych, Ukraine’s ousted president who enriched himself and his family while dozens of Maidan protesters were being killed by the SWAT-like Berkutspecial police unit.

Phase two, after Yanukovych was forced to flee the country and Berkut dismantled, was the invasion of Crimea. The use of overt military force marks this phase as the most flagrantly disrespectful of international law and norms.

Phase three was the purposeful disruption of Ukrainian democracy in the run-up to the May 25 presidential elections. This included the sham referendums in Crimea, Donetsk, and Luhansk....

prop·a·gan·da - information, especially of a biased or misleading nature, used to promote or publicize a particular political cause or point of view.

Nothing misleading here, just the truth that the mass murderer KGB Putin’s bootlicking sycophants want to hide.

No mention of how the Maidan became violent and radicalized after the Obama Administration chose to back the most violent demonstrating elements.

I wonder WHY??

To just ignore the involvement of the NGO’s, and the State Department in all of this is ignoring truths that present an entirely different picture.

Ignore the useful idiots and their Ruskie propaganda bunny trails.

Keep your eyes on the ball, the Russians are the enemy and Putin is enemy #1.

Because those are just dirty Russkie lies. Obama some kind of scheming geopolitical mastermind? Not.

Obama hasn’t lifted a finger to help our ally Ukraine. His weakness invited Russia’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine.

You're showing your ignorance on the subject here.

Aparrently you haven't heard, McCain lost the election. Obama is President, not McCain.

If McCain were President Putin would not have invaded.

McCain: Ukraine Crisis Exposes Obama's 'Disturbing Lack of Realism' - March 14, 2014 - Specifically addressing Russia's invasion of the Crimean peninsula in Ukraine, McCain wrote that the United States' response "has exposed the disturbing lack of realism" of the Obama administration and made the country look weak in the eyes of Russian President Vladimir Putin and the rest of the world. According to McCain, President Obama's belief that "the tide of war is receding" around the world so the United States can afford to scale back its military presence is a miscalculation. That "reset" policy, coupled with Syrian President Bashar Assad's crossing of Obama's "red line" without consequence, has emboldened Chinese and Iranian loyalists, al-Qaida terrorists, and aggressive actors like Putin, whom he called "an unreconstructed Russian imperialist and KGB apparatchik."

"To people like Mr. Putin, weakness is provocative," McCain wrote. He added, "What is most troubling about Mr. Putin's aggression in Crimea is that it reflects a growing disregard for America's credibility in the world."

McCain echoed that sentiment in a fundraising letter penned for the Republican National Committee on Thursday. "A secure world relies on a strong America. And a strong America relies on a robust military," McCain wrote, according to The Washington Examiner. "Yet, sadly under President Obama, America's military strength has been weakened and our country's leadership in the world has been questioned. As a result, the world's most dangerous players are flexing their muscles. Extremists are gaining ground. And these conflicts are becoming more dangerous by the day for our allies — and for us."

McCain: Obama response to Ukraine almost as weak as ‘doing nothing’ - March 17, 2014 - “I don’t know how it could have been weaker besides doing nothing,” Mr. McCain said on MSNBC Monday afternoon. “Seven people being sanctioned after naked aggression has taken place? I can tell you our friends in Ukraine are brave and they’re dedicated and they’re willing to fight.”

McCain blasts Obama 'weakness' on Ukraine - April 7, 2014 - “As the risk of further Russian aggression against Ukraine appears to be growing, it is outrageous that the Obama Administration still has not met the Ukrainian government’s request for modest military assistance,” McCain said in a statement.

McCain: Russia taking advantage of American weakness - April 22, 2014 - "This president does not believe in American exceptionalism, America's role in to lead in the world. And that doesn't mean we should have boots on the ground everywhere or anywhere for that matter. But we have to understand that Vladimir Putin will take whatever he can get." When asked why Russia's move on Crimea is so critical to the United States, McCain warned that letting Putin get away with his power grab would only embolden him in the future. "He senses weakness. And by the way, there is weakness. I cannot believe what we're doing."

“Yeah, we started this.”

After Syria, a bunch of Dem Pundits went on TV trying to defend the Messiah, and said “there are other ways to get at Putin.”

Well, now we see what they meant.
By destabilizing an already unstable Ukraine, they thought that cutting Russia off from Crimea, by changing to a hostile-to-Russia Ukrainian government, would be a huge blow to Putin, and force him to back down on Syria.

OOPS....

They forgot that while the read “Rules for Radicals”. Putin was reading Machiavelli’s “The Prince”. To think that the FSB didn’t know what was happening in Ukraine, as well as who was behind it, and that Russia didn’t have a plan to act if Ukraine’s government fell is naïve at best, and dishonest in the extreme.

Victoria Nuland said "F" the EU and supported Yatseniuk for PM. Yatseniuk is not a member of either Svoboda or Right Sector.

The Soros conspiracy theory is Alex Jones tinfoil-hat stupidity.

If McCain was president he probably would have started WW-III by now. I don’t know who is less stable. McCain or Obama.

Stupid article that will only seem even haphazardly thought out to people so far gone that they are beyond mere stupidity.

How dare I say that?

Simple (though the beyond stupid will be confused and angered by this statement) this falls apart at the very beginning.

Phase one was possess a military that Europe would be wiped with like the US smeared the Iraqi forces. Phase two doesn’t really matter, but contrary to the tripe I am dissecting, it was have a closer tie to China than Europe has.

None of the tertiary concerns with which the article in its entirety concerns
itself are significant to overcome this.

Appreciate your words here Tailgunner Joe, especially with all the pro Russian propagandists here at FR.

I notice they never have anything to say when caught time and time again posting fake pictures of dead children etc or the false stuff about Ukrainian Nazis, and they totally stay out of threads that show the evil and lies of Putin and the Russian invaders and minority Russian terrorists in eastern Ukraine.
