It should be noted that some French Jews have very deep roots in France, with ancestors going back to the Napoleonic era. That may be a mitigating factor on the exodus that might be occurring.
That mitigating factor had its limits the last go round.
Are we hearing much from the government on this?
The Belgian response to the recent antisemitism was comforting, even if only words. What’s going on à Paris?
The problem with French Jews c. 1940 (and Jews in most of the nations in continental Europe that were militarily invaded and occupied by Nazi Germany) was that too many couldn't foresee that their nation would be overrun by a foreign power and that foreign power had an unprecedented plan for genocide.
In the current situation, France has the largest Jewish community of any European nation. They are not held captive by the French government and can leave if they wish. Some are doing just that, but the numbers going to Israel or other countries are still relatively small. So you have to say that, despite all the problems with the Arab Muslims, there has to be something about France that the bulk its Jewish population is comfortable with.
Well, of course. They are French. My grandfather was German, and felt German through and through. He didn’t believe that what happened would happen. He owned factories and stores. He had a limousine and driver. He had a passport and could have taken his family and left of his own free will, when things started to look bad. He stayed. Too long.
It depends what protection the French Jews are promised, and how serious the government is about it. If they are afraid of the Muslims, the French had best not ignore history.
