Vegas rampage underscores the rise of violent radicals; cop killings up 53%

Sunday’s slaying of two Las Vegas policemen raises to 23 the number of law enforcement officers killed by gunfire this year, a 53 percent increase over the tally at this time last year, which is spurring concern about the influence of radical groups.

After shooting the policemen at point-blank range, the husband and wife killers took the officers’ weapons and reportedly covered them with a Revolutionary War-era Gadsden flag, which depicts a coiled snake and the words “Don’t Tread on Me.” The officers’ killers — Jerad Miller and his wife, Amanda — had been at Cliven Bundy’s ranch during his standoff with federal officials in April, though the rancher’s family said Monday the two had been chased away.

The Millers had an ideology that was along the lines of “militia and white supremacists” and that law enforcement was the “oppressor,” said Assistant Sheriff Kevin McMahill.

The slayings of officers Alyn Beck, 41, and Igor Soldo, 31, who were gunned down while having lunch at a pizza buffet, add to a trend that has law enforcers worried that they are becoming the targets of crime.

“We are seeing more direct violence as a result of radical groups, and that does concern us,” said Rich Roberts, a spokesman for the International Union of Police Associations. “There seems to be more people out there who are blatantly anti-cop, and heavy exposure through the Internet and other propaganda seems to make people with these violent views feed off each other.”

And so it begins.

Whip up a hysteria in the media to justify Holder when he begins to crack down on people because of "thought crimes ".

Welcome to the ministry of love.

I wonder how this compares to the number of people who called 911 for help and were then summarily killed by the responding cops

Does any FReeper claim racists as one of them or on our side? I don’t.

These aren’t my people. They’re evil. I’m against evil.

Statistics aside, there’s been a palpable, growing dislike for police officers in recent years, said Jim Pasco, executive director at the Fraternal Order of Police, the nation's largest police officers union.

“Over the last 25 years or so there’s been a gradual erosion toward authority figures and of respect for police officers. It’s highly visible,” said Mr. Pasco.

Maybe if cops weren't behaving like Jack Booted Thugs using extra- constitutional methods of search and seizure and over the top use of force, they would gain more respect and less animosity from the citizens they are SUPPOSED to be protecting and serving.

If it is suddenly legitimate to talk about the “ideology” of a crazy person when will we start talking about the “ideology” of that guy who shot Rep Kelly, or the guy who shot that girl at the high school in Aurora or Lee Harvey Oswald? It was never legitimate to talk about leftist crazies being leftists but now one insane person buys a Gadsden flag and its supposed to be meaningful.

I admit there are people who would love to kill cops. And some do. But how many cops are there who would love to shoot anyone they consider “guilty”? Or dogs? Or would like to throw a concussion grenade into a baby’s crib? Or can’t wait to get a no-knock warrant so they can put on their jack boot uniforms and go kick a door in? The people are fighting back because of what the cops are doing.

The ones who aren’t doing that are looking the other way while it happens: every last one of them. You can say there are good cops, I would agree with that. The reality is, though, there are NONE with much character.

The people today who see the Gadsden flag and think “terrorists!” are just like those in the 1770s who supported the King.

What people are fighting back? Cops are not getting killed because people are fed up with them. They’re getting killed because Obama’s sons are unleashed and we don’t deport Mexican criminals anymore. What happened in Las Vegas was an anomaly.

I’m calling BS on this article. Let them list the police killings this year along with the circumstances of each. Oh right, they can’t do that or their thesis would go down the drain as a massive fail.

Yep, that’s sick. Luckily they committed suicide quickly. If only all the crazies would just go directly to that step it would save us a lot of horror and mayhem.

God bless the cops’ families.

Let’s not let the Left brand us. The KKK were the brownshirts of the Democratic Party in the south.

I wouldn't care to justify or defend what these methheads did. I would only observe the escalation on all sides:

“During the Obama administration, according to Pentagon data, police departments have received tens of thousands of machine guns; nearly 200,000 ammunition magazines; thousands of pieces of camouflage and night-vision equipment; and hundreds of silencers, armored cars and aircraft.”

“The equipment has been added to the armories of police departments that already look and act like military units. Police SWAT teams are now deployed tens of thousands of times each year, increasingly for routine jobs.”

Somebody needs to collect a list of all the nutjobs and their political backgrounds.

I categorically renounce racism as a conservative belief. I’m a classical liberal in the Burkean sense.

This - at least IMNSHO - is the aspect of this case that should be investigated and aired out.

We used to look at Cops etal as ‘protectors’ and were raised to feel safe to call on them when in trouble.

The ‘cop on the beat’ is no more, and local Police Departments have as much fire power as some third world countries.

They seem to relish situations where they can wheel out all their toys and flex their muscles.

Also, with the ‘seizure’ laws if one of them think you have to much cash on you (FOR WHATEVER REASON) they have the ‘law’ behind them to seize your cash and vehicle till YOU prove yourself innocent...

The old ‘Innocent till proven guilty’ never really was correct but in todays world it is a joke.

If you are CHARGED with a crime, you are subject to bail and if you can’t raise it you are imprisoned until your trial.

That is not ‘innocent’ till proven guilty - at least in a common sense world....
