More than 150,000 people have been forced to flee Iraq's second city of Mosul after Islamist militants effectively took control of it.
Troops were among those fleeing as hundreds of jihadists from the ISIS group overran it and much of the surrounding province of Nineveh.
Iraqi PM Nouri Maliki responded by asking parliament to declare a state of emergency to grant him greater powers.
The US said the development showed ISIS is a threat to the entire region.

Looks like Maliki got buttfucked by Al Qaeda, who apparently didn’t receive their paychecks from Iran and decided to take a city instead.
“Hundreds” of militants. This shouldn’t have happened in Mosul, which when it was run by an American soldier/rabbi, was a peaceful place in 2003-2004.
Obama is directly responsible for this major disaster in allowing Al Qaeda and their Sunni allies to seize a lot of Iraq.
However, since Obama seems to prefer the Sunni fanatics of Iran, over the Sadr fanatic Shiites of Iraq, this was inevitable, and Obie did his best to see that it happened on his watch.
Don’t believe me, look at how Iraq has devolved into sectarian terrorism, with Al Qaeda guiding a lot of it, since Obama withdrew American troops ahead of time.

CBS News this evening (shocker!) actually reported that terrorists who had been fighting against Assad in Syria can freely cross the border into Iraq.
I think, given the smoke and mirrors and plots worthy of a Shogun, which are commonplace in Middle Eastern politics,
that this may be an elaborate way for
1) Syrian islamists to get their hands on good weapons to use in Syria; and
2) the Kurds to take over Mosul (which they have wanted to reclaim since Sadaam effectively took it away from them).
