Older thread, but in case no one answered you - there is one caveat to citizenship in the case of an American parent living abroad.
The parent must be an American citizen who has spent at least 5 years in the USA after the age of 14. Why 14? Not a clue.
Cruz’ mother had done so - she were both American and lived in the USA until she was in her late 20’s. Her citizenship is heritable. Obama’s mother gave birth when she was 18. One year too soon, if he were, in fact, born anywhere other than US soil (on that aspect I make no comment as it is boring and the ship has most definitely sailed).

Thanks, Yeah, I didn’t know the particulars of her status. I have studied the Nationality Act of 1952 and know it all to well. I just believe that the Founders intent was 2 American parents on American soil but we’ve been there before. Too bad that they weren’t more specific.
