... Behind the scenes, Mr. Cantor worked hard over the last year to wrestle control of the party back from a small band of insurgents and steer it back to the political center on issues from immigration to the economy. Now, his defeat serves as a battle cry for conservatives everywhere who, until now, were in danger of losing their clout inside the party.
A case in point: Milton Wolf, the conservative challenging Republican Sen. Pat Roberts in Kansas this year, immediately issued a statement Tuesday night to say, Eric Cantor isnt the only incumbent from Virginia who is going to lose his primary this year, a reference to questions about Mr. Roberts residency in Kansas.
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.) in her statement heralding the Cantor loss on Tuesday night, saying, The tea party defeated Republican leader Eric Cantor, who is one of the most extreme members of Congress.
But that public persona ignores Mr. Cantors efforts in recent years to quell the conservative rebellion, from taking sides in primaries to outmaneuvering the tea-party wing in a series of budget battles with Mr. Obama.

There was no “swift rise.” He was pushed up the ladder by Roy Blunt who was in the leadership in the House at the time, and is now in the leadership of the Senate. He votes like this:
Blunt (MO) - 2016 - 59% (Average) - 57% (Heritage) - 67% (CFG) - 71% (ACU) - 41% (FreedomWorks)
Are we surprised that Cantor was leaned moderate?? He was a worthless politician and I’m so glad he’s gone!
That is certainly one way to look at it. Another might be that Cantor lied his tail off to gain the trust and votes of the TEA folks and when he was settled in and secure (so he thought) he let his true stripes show.
Gee, I wonder which description is correct.....
The “political center” is the far left of just 4 years ago.
The GOP has taken a hard left turn since Obama became President. Hard left.
There is no longer anything closely resembling a “political center”. It’s all left.
The TEA Party is dead, isn't it? Some of the most influential orifices of the MSM have been saying so for a couple of years now.
IMO, America does NOT want amnesty for the illegal INVADERS.
Cantor sure refused to listen to that noise.
Yup, one of the US Chamber of Commerce’s star Amnesty Whores became a lame, (but still very dangerous), duck, and many, Many more Amnesty Whores to go.
It is time, - - - - time for a change.
And he deserved that defeat. He was a complete flop.
Right about now, Jeff Flake is in dire need of a Depends.

This is only a preliminary. Does no good at all to primary a RINO then have the Tea Party guy defeated in the general.
It is human nature to quit when your 'side' wins...few voters stick around to hold that politician's feet to the fire on promises he or she made. Mr. Cantor is the perfect example of that...coasting on good looks and bravado he left the scene of his promises and voters left him to his own devices....
