Cantor's Graceless 'Concession Speech'

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) failed to congratulate or even acknowledge Dave Brat in his concession speech last night.

Neither did Cantor offer Brat his support in November's general election against his Democratic opponent, or call Brat to concede the race, according to Brat.

"Cantor's concession speech did not mention Dave once," Brat's campaign manager Zach Werrell noted to Breitbart News.

I don’t think that Virginia law prevents him from running and also I don’t think that he will run.

Cantor is done.

Cantor and Ryan both began with good instincts.

They both got too deeply into the finer points of policy and negotiation, and lost the forest for the trees.

A lesson needs to be taught.

But it is very difficult for a politician to stay true.

I would say if anything, that Conservatives are FAR more likely to say they’d rather see a Democrat win a race than a Republican they don’t approve of.

omgosh--you are right... i feel like the scales just fell from my eyes when i read your comment...

One word...arrogance.

***************************************

This sums it up pretty well (and his “concession speech” was lousy because he never gave a thought to the fact that he might need one!):

Source: http://time.com/2854761/eric-cantor-dave-brat-virginia/

Some observers cautioned against drawing sweeping conclusions about immigration, and when the dust settles, it may prove that Cantor’s problem was less ideology and more a sense that he stood more for his own ambition than for any definable policies. He frequently reinvented himself with splashy policy speeches, and toured the country raising money and gathering chits for an eventual run for House Speaker.

“Was immigration an issue? Yes. Was it the deciding factor to the tune of 11%? Not no, hell no. It’s a fairy tale,” Virginia Democratic strategist Dave “Mudcat” Saunders said. “People talk. And they talk about Eric Cantor. ‘Where is he?’ His constituent services suck. He was never in the district. And when he was in the district and he went out, he had a [security] entourage with him. He was out gallivanting all over the country being a big deal and this is a lesson.”

Aand yet people still demand that we vote for that. “No matter what”.

Then act stunned when ‘that’ runs to the Democrats hat in hand.

Then wonder why America is screwed.

You are right. Washington is a tough town and it is ingrained with procedures and other nonsense. I can feel their pain though even though I don’t appreciate it. I work at the Naval Academy and would like to see some changes. I bring them up and am slapped down every time....”we don’t do it that way”......phooey.

Cantor is done.

Perhaps it depends on how much Boehner and the GOPe wants to help him. Maybe they'll send Murcowski down to cheer him up.

Cantor can run a write-in campaign but the deadline for filing a petition to appear as an independent candidate on the ballot expired when the polls closed on Prinary Day. That’s the Virginia sore loser law.

“...I would say if anything, that Conservatives are FAR more likely to say they’d rather see a Democrat win a race than a Republican they don’t approve of...”

Respectfully, babble, I think you’ve got it wrong - I’d rather see a Democrat win than a Republican who COMPROMISES with the Democrats on helping to further destroy my Country.

The GOP-e candidate who helps the Dems, betrays the people who believed in and elected him and the Country, and does far more damage.

We already know the Dems are subversive; we don’t need to elect people who will help them further.

“...All they want to do is maximize the odds of someone with an R after his name winning a race...”

That “R” can easily mean “RINO”, and in the case of Cantor, it fits.

We need people to stop the slide into insanity, not facilitate it.

Well, now “that” can run to the Democrats with his ass in his hands, because the voters just handed it to him.

Good on ya, Virginians. Thank you!

Pretty bad that he wouldn’t be gracious. I also think Brat supporters ought to gracious. No one likes a sore winner OR loser.

Oh, bull. Look at all the backstabbing the GOP-e did to Tea Party candidates who beat moderates in the primaries in 2010. After years of telling conservatives to support whoever won the primary no matter what.
