I was terrified about how the show would portray the Dunmore proclamation. I feared a leftist slant about freeing the slaves but they were dead honest.
The Dunmore proclamation was a bill of attainder which stripped patriots of their property including the slaves. The slaves weren’t freed, they were given a choice. Fight for the British and gain freedom once the war was won, be resold, or given to British officers or loyalist families.
You’re right on. I had forgotten the name (Dunmore Proclamation) but when the black boy whispered to his mother they were free, I recognized it.
