A few weeks ago, high ranking Iranian officials admitted to a mindset I have assertedfor almost a decade in briefings with Congress and government officials on both sides of the Atlanticexists.
The Tehran regimes minister of defense openly stated on April 16, 2014, that his countrys real borders are along south Lebanon, sitting on the northern frontiers of Israel.
Obviously, such Iranian bellicose declarations are not only a blow against the Lebanese republics sovereignty, the latter having been quasi-seized by Iranian ally Hezbollah for decades, but these words also menace international efforts to revive the peace process between Israel and the Palestinians, a process already destabilized by another Tehran partner: Hamas.

Are the “militants” in Iraq backed by Iran?
Wouldn’t surprise me if they were. The Iraqi troops just let them walk in, after all.
I doubt it. Said "militants" are Sunnis, a la al-Qaeda.
Iran, which is Shi'ite, would relate to the Iraqi government.
Assad regime in Syria, the mullahs of Iran, the Iraqi government -- all Shi-ite. Thus, allies.
The Syrian rebels and the Iraqi "militants", all Sunni. Along with the Pallies...
