Mark Steyn: Helicopters on the Roof

In May 2011, in the wake of Osama bin Laden's death, CNN's Fareed Zakaria wrote a column headlined "Al Qaeda Is Over":

The truth is this is a huge, devastating blow to al Qaeda, which had already been crippled by the Arab Spring. It is not an exaggeration to say that this is the end of al Qaeda in any meaningful sense of the word.

Al Qaeda is not an organization that commands massive resources. It doesn't have a big army. It doesn't have vast reservoirs of funds that it can direct easily across the world.

Zakaria is famously a confidant of Obama's, but there are limits to the horse manure even devoted courtiers swallow. Three years on, just one malign al-Qaeda progeny, the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, now commands more territory than ever - from Aleppo in western Syria to the gates of Baghdad. It has all the tanks and weaponry abandoned by the Iraqi "army" we trained. It has the cash reserves of the second largest city in Iraq, and control of the northern oil fields.

SNIP

Obama and Clinton ended the war in Iraq by losing it. They "pivoted" from Iraq to Afghanistan, and wound up losing both. Hillary crowed over Gaddafi's corpse - "We came, we saw, he died" - and then sat by as her ambassador and best friend "Chris" was devoured by the mob: He died, she sat by, we're gone. The Arab Spring that Zakaria claims "crippled" al-Qaeda delivered Egypt to the Muslim Brotherhood and a military coup, Tunisia to soft Islamists, Libya to ever harder Islamists, and much of Syria and Iraq to jihadists too hardcore for "mainstream" al-Qaeda.

In other words, another trademark Obama disaster.

And from Big Media, crickets.

There are foreign enemies and there is Killary and POSOTUS, domestic enemies…and we are paying them.

No, it’s not an 0bama disaster.

From the viewpoints of him and the barbarians on the other end of his BlackBerry, it’s a resounding success.

They want Western Civilization destroyed, with most of us dead and the rest in chains.

Obama is unmatched at bringing stupidity to new levels. The clowns that he has put in charge of the White House believe that they can turn their fantasies into realities through an ever more entangling series of lies. America’s enemies don’t agree.

A quick glance at a history book would show that appeasment seldom constitues a long-lived defense policy. I believe there were notable instances of its failure as recently as the last century.

We will be at war with Islam again. This next time will be a larger war than the punitive efforts at slapping down Saddam and the Taliban. It will be a world war. We are not quite there yet. It will be a while (ten years...twenty?) because we have neither the will nor the vision to carry it out. Islam has the energy and the momentum. They see us as the weak horse and themselves as the strong. They will be emboldened to reach farther afield - only held back somewhat by the internal friction of internecine squabbles.

It will take us some time to clear our collective minds from the Hopium hangover. It may take several more disasters on the scale of 911 before we are roused. When we do rouse ourselves it will be with no notion of nation building. It will be nation destroying. There will be no tolerance for dessicated hippies and their aspirant scions clogging the effort with harebrained protests, complaints about underwear hats, and human shield actings-out. The stakes will be infinitely higher than the Gulf Wars or Afghanistan. Nuclear war will be at risk.

I think your analysis is correct.

Unfortunately.

The difference being that this time the helicopters landing on the roof belong to al Qaeda, thanks to Obama.

Fareed Zakaria is what they used to call a “Coffee House Revolutionary”. The fact that “Newsweek” would hire this buffoon to sling his un-moored (from reality) theories just shows you that they are nothing more than a propaganda rag.

No, it's a lack of balls. We need a secret weapon.

I have previously posted that "a video was at least partly responsible" for Benghazi ....

We came, we saw, he died ... cackle cackle. This disgusting vile woman would have been outraged (and supported 24/7 by the DNC-run national media) if W had done something even remotely like this.

Mark Steyn highlights this

This is her 'legacy' as SOS and should prevent her ever from holding elective office in this county.

To: Travis McGee; All

I wonder if people, and elected officials, are finally figuring out, but not quite going public with the notion that the reason for the republican fails at the primary election level, is because people (conservative voters) are finally figuring out that “treason is the reason”???

Like I have said, we should fire every frappin’ one of them and start over...

But the majority of people/voters believe their “guy/gal” is above all of this...They will not see the “collective fail” our legislative branch has been for many years...

And not a lot of people in those districts are ponying up to challenge (much less winning, exception with Brat) the establishment...

The overall message of political reform in the republican party is NOT resonating with the base...Not to a great extent...

I’m about tired of trying to effect any kind of change, or improvement in the republican parties focus on how to correct some of these political deficiencies...I’ve been on the inside of that battle from the position I hold in my neck of the woods for wayyyyy too long...

There are just too many old geezers that don’t want ANY form of correction of those political deficiencies, because they are too old, set in their ways:

“How dare YOU question our authority!!! Do you know WHO I AM!!!”

I know I am not alone in my individual efforts in this state, but geesh...Talk about folks (establishment republicans) who are embedded in the trenches, and won’t try to advance...And I’ve been fomenting these attempts for almost 20+ years...

Its almost like the establishment is inoculated against ANY “conservative principles” vaccine...

Not sure what else to do but hunker down and watch the complete political implosion of this party...

But I guess this is just my opinion...I’m sure there are supporters who believe the sun rises and sets on what those republican party elites have done over the past 20 years...

[shakes head]
