I did the same thing. I don't think my cholesterol dropped, but my coronary arteries did become up to 95% obstructed. As soon as I recover from my quadruple bypass operation I intend to study the matter to discover how to make the most of my recent repair.

I stopped all that BS 1.5 years ago, stopped eating lowfat everything, went back to red meat, EGGS, pork, all the stuff I loved...my cholestrol DROPPED a LOT.

I had the same experience. I switched to low carb diet, threw out the margarine and brought on the real butter, red meats, pork and lots of eggs. Cholestrol went from 246 to 153, and I've lost 90 pounds. It really does work.

I suspect there is a genetic component to it.

Yes, I forgot to mention that I threw out the margarine and went to butter, and I use olive oil a lot too.

I do still think lean meats are important to mix in...can’t be all bacon and sausage. I’d rather die than quit eating steak. :)

I think you may be on to something. Unfortunately, no do-overs for that.

I don't know a great deal about my family's medical history but what I do know is not encouraging.

Well worth the time to watch the video at this link .... it will make your blood boil when you see how the government got into this and how the studies/science were twisted to the exact opposite of what they actually showed so big money could be made off of the "low fat" meme ... which is when the obesity epidemic in this country started. The exact same thing is going on with the global warming/climate change hoax being perpetrated today.

How did we come to believe saturated fat and cholesterol are bad for us?

I have eaten what I want and what I like to eat all my life. I am 66, my first visit(two weeks ago) to my local VA clinic they took various(6) samples of blood for testing. One was for cholesterol levels.

I am 5’8” and weigh 145.

RESULTS OF TEST

Total CHOL: 161 (Optimal)
HDL: 76
LDL 68
Triglcerides: 84

My goal should be:
Total CHOL: Less than 200
HDL: 40-60
LDL: Less than 100
TRIG: Less than 150

Was told the results were normal and that I have been doing a good job.

I will continue to eat what ever I want and what I like.

Almost everything the powers that be have said about exercise and nutrition over the past 40 years has been wrong, possibly on purpose.

See link at comment 27 .... you are correct.

The government gave land to the railrod biulders. Who controlled the transportation of the cattle. They bought up all the grain and controlled the transportation of that. When they bought all the grain, it rotted in the silos. They hired scientists to develope a way to store the grain longer without rotting - bleached white flour. Will the grain not rotting they again had excess food. Ever heard of General Mills, pilbury and such? They went to the government to create a suggested diet that contained grain - the introduction of the USDA food piramide. The government has since made modifications based on what industry is willing to pay for re-election funds.

No, Atkins was also wrong. Excess protein harms kidneys and more. It makes the liver work overtime to convert the excess to glucose that the body must have to survive and then, when the “diet” stops, the liver doesn’t quit what it got into the habit of doing. The answer is BALANCE, but Americans don’t like to think that way.

Isn’t Michelle Obama forcing school aged kids to eat less meat and more carbs to reduce childhood obesity? Won’t her program have the opposite effect?

Great video!

Good to show it to people who say “fat, cholesterol, blah blah blah...”
