Iran Deploys Quds Forces To Support Iraqi Troops, Helps Retake Most Of Tikrit
International Business Times ^ | 06/12/2014 | By Howard Koplowitz

In a stunning development that threatens to further destabilize the Middle East, Iran has deployed an elite unit of its Revolutionary Guard to help the Iraqi government take on ISIS, the Sunni militant group that has seized several areas in the northern part of the country.

Two battalions of the Quds Forces are already making progress in their fight against the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, or ISIS, the Wall Street Journal reported. The militant group took control of Saddam Hussein’s hometown of Tikrit on Wednesday, but Revolutionary Guard and Iraqi troops overtook 85 percent of the city on Thursday, Iraqi and Iranian security forces told the paper.

Iran, which is dominated by Shiites, has close ties to Iraq’s Shiite-led government. Iranian President Hassan Rouhani called ISIS “an extremist, terrorist group that is acting savagely” during an appearance on state television, Al Jazeera reported. "For our part, as the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran ... we will combat violence, extremism and terrorism in the region and the world."

The Iranian military is considering shifting troops fighting in Syria, where forces are supporting Syrian President Bashar Assad’s government, to Iraq if the deployment of the Quds Forces doesn’t make any progress in the latest offensive.

So now we are fighting with Iran in Iraq, against Iran in Syria, for Al Qaeda in Syria, against Al Qaeda in Iraq.

Supplying weapons to all. Just what the hell are we doing anyway?

Ignoring our own morals.

Morals that have stood the test of time and the judgement of history.

Someone on Fox News claimed that ISIS consists of only about 800-1000 fighters. Shouldn’t that be fairly easy to beat back? Meanwhile, Shepard Smith claimed that Sunnis and Shias had been fighting for “thousands and thousands of years.” Shep, read a book about the history of Islam!

There is a high probability that this may devolve into a Sunni/Shiite civil war.

And what few Christians remain in Iraq will be caught in the middle.

The Sunnis and Shiites exterminated the Christians in Iraq years ago. Just as they are in Egypt, Syria and Pakistan.

Unfortunately, the Churches founded by the Apostles will all be gone in just a few years.

So let the muzzies kill each other. Might as well have something positive come out of this.

We intervene here and there, again and again while an invasion at our borders is not only unchecked bit encouraged. This country is doomed!!

War popcorn! I hope there are some YouTube videos of Quds vs. ISIS. This is about as nasty a Shiite vs. Sunni battle as you are going to get.

Now, where is it that Saddam buried all those chemical weapons??

I’ll bet that Assad or the Quds force know where!

This will become very ugly, very fast.

Maybe if we can get the Keystone pipeline completed by 2016, we’ll only freeze out the women and children for two global warming winter seasons!

Thanks Zer0.

If we don’t do anything else we should carpet bomb the Quds.

I have to agree with a poster from another site:

"Surrendering an entire country to al Qaeda and simultaneously p*ssing away 4,486 American lives and a trillion taxpayer dollars spent in blood and treasure is a tremendous achievement for Obama. It sure surpasses anything Bin Laden could have done."
