Bergdahl’s Letters From a Taliban Prison
Daily Beast via Yahoo! News ^ | 2014-06-12 | Kimberly Dozier

Writing from a Taliban “prison,” Bowe Bergdahl urged his family and his government to wait until they had all the facts before judging him for leaving his base. Then Bergdahl explained, at least in part, why he left his fellow troops in 2009.

“Leadership was lacking, if not non-existent. The conditions were bad and looked to be getting worse for the men that where actuly (sic) the ones risking thier (sic) lives from attack,” he writes in a letter dated March 23, 2013 and obtained by The Daily Beast. It’s one of two letters sent by Bergdahl to his parents during his five years held by the Taliban-allied Haqqani Network in the tribal region of Pakistan.

“If this letter makes it to the U.S.A., tell those involved in the investigation that there are more sides to the cittuwation (sic),” he adds. “Please tell D.C. to wait for all evadince (sic) to come in.”

The copies of the two letters were given to The Daily Beast by sources in contact with the Taliban. U.S. and western officials confirmed they were the same letters delivered by International Red Cross from the Taliban to Bowe Bergdahl’s family. Together, they represent the first comment from Bergdahl himself on the controversy over his departure from his base in June 2009, leading to his capture. Fellow troopers have attacked Bergdahl, saying soldiers were injured and killed as military resources were devoted to the search for him.

“He and his younger sister, Sky, were home schooled by their devout Calvinist parents, instructed in religion and morality.”

Must have missed the spelling part.

“At age 16, he became interested in fencing and ballet, and moved in with the family of a local girl studying dance who instructed him in Buddhism and Tarot.”

“By age 20, Sgt Bergdahl is said to have grown restless and requested to join the infantry force of the French Foreign Legion.

He travelled to Paris to learn French, only to later have his application rejected.

Upon returning to Idaho, Sgt Bergdahl worked as a barista at a local coffee shop, his interest in survivalism and combat grew.

He reportedly told a family friend about wanting to travel to Africa to teach self-defence techniques to threatened villagers.”

“According to a detailed investigation by Rolling Stone magazine, Sgt Bergdahl began sending emails to his parents critical of the US and its military, to which his father instructed him to obey his conscience.

The magazine claims that on 30 June 2009, he asked his team leader if it would cause problems were he to leave the base with his sensitive equipment. His superior said yes, and the soldier then collected water, his diary, a knife and digital camera, and left.”

His spelling is atrocious. I guess he studied Common Core before it was common. He’s gonna give home-schooling a bad name.

He sent his journal to his friend. His spelling was bad in that, too. He, according to his friend, had a learning disability. He certainly had a spelling disability.

I suppose for the Left his journal will become this year’s “Letter from Birmingham Jail.”

Usually spelling errors make sense and you can see how the person arrived at them. This guy is not stupid and “learning disability” is rather broad. Lack of ability to spell words correctly is not a sign of low intelligence it usually is a sign of low memorization skills. I would not assume someone had a learning disability because they had trouble spelling certain words.

Most of the time if someone has no idea how to spell a word they will sound it out or they will use simple words they already have known for example “s-i-t” spells sit which is pretty darn basic. So the guy cannot sound out “sit” in “situation” but he can figure out the “shun” sound is spelled “tion”? It just struck me as odd and as a way for him to get a message to his parents which he did not want his “captors” to read.

My oldest son always had trouble with spelling. Then we tried some memorization techniques, and he could spell words quite well. Backwards. Lol. We accepted his poor spelling skills. He made up for it with his ability to fix things that hubby hated to touch. (Plumbing, electrical things, etc.) By the time he was in high school, his reading and spelling had improved all on its own. He deliberately sends me texts using homonyms of the words he means to use. He thinks this is hilarious because we continue to make fun of his vocabulary and spelling skills. I am going to show him these letters from Bowe Bergdahl. Maybe he can crack the code. Bowe’s spelling is atrocious.

If it was a code it probably referenced some family reference that would only be known by his parents. Mind you this is just pure speculation.

I have a bad habit of wanting to misspell license as licensce I know it is wrong but dang I want to sneak that “s” in their.

As far a skill sets go I’d sure miss an excellent handyman before I missed a good speller.

Boo frickin hoo. You don’t take a hike from the military because you don’t approve of the leadership and conditions. It was a combat zone its supposed to suck.

Personally I’m just disgusted by this kid and I don’t even want him court martialed. Just give him an administrative discharge and never think about him again. He is sucking up way to much of our oxygen and he’s not worth it.
