Its built on theory and provable science. I believe White is the guy who has actually been able to consistently warp space by a few nanometers. Obviously not enough to propel a space ship but it does seem to indicate that considerably less mass would be required. (rather than the mass of Jupiter, something the mass of the voyager craft may be enough)
