200 U.S. contractors surrounded by jihadists in Iraq

About 200 Americans under contract with the Department of Defense at Balad Air Force Base in Iraq are trapped by the al-Qaida-inspired jihadists who have seized control of two cities and are now threatening Baghdad, according to WND sources.

The sources, private contractors who have recently returned to the U.S. from Iraq, said Friday their former colleagues effectively have been abandoned by the U.S. military and are fighting for their lives against an army of jihadists surrounding the base who belong to the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, or ISIS.

The U.S. contractors are at Balad to help the Pentagon prepare the facilities for the delivery of the F-16 aircraft the Obama administration has agreed to provide the Iraqi government.

The surrounded Americans said they currently are under ISIS fire from small arms, AK47s, and rocket propelled grenades, or RPGs.

The contractors so far have been able to hold the base, but those on the scene reported it was only a matter of time before the ISIS terrorists succeed in breaking through the perimeter.

“I’ll bet these guys were all making a king’s ransom. But the problem is, the danger makes all money look like peanuts.”

I hope one of them has read the Anabasis. It looks like their only way out.

I think the Washington government would actively interfere with rescue efforts by some third party.

Maybe the Iranians can come to their rescue. Wouldn’t that be ironic.

Jimmy Carter and the Iranian hostage crisis in redux.

As inept as Carter was, at least he did make an attempt to rescue the hostages. If this report about the contractors is accurate, they don't have long to live.

INCORRECT. The U.S. Military did not abandon anyone. Our political “leaders” removed them from Iraq. If you stayed after the military was pulled surely you knew the risks?

The 200 are being forced to sign NDAs as we write.

That will be hard to do as ISIS is sawing their heads off. Remember, this isn't the cash-strapped taliban. This is the ruthless ISIS who DO NOT negotiate.

If you are Western, Christian, or pro-Malaki, or especially American and you are captured by the vangard of ISIS, your head comes off.

“She’s a Vet, was working as a civilian contractor, was required to carry a sidearm at all times.”

GD’s policy, based on Iraq’s laws and the laws of every Arab country was a contractor could never carry a gun. In Iraq they were often the only unarmed people. Even kids carry guns. (I understand that Arab countries will arrest you for having a gun. Penalties are severe.)

I believe Jerome Corsi more than Jen "Bagdahd Bob" Psaki .....

"We can confirm that U.S. citizens, under contract to the Government of Iraq, in support of the U.S. Foreign Military Sales program in Iraq, are being temporarily relocated by their companies due to security concerns in the area," State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said in a statement. She declined to say how many contractors were being relocated and their location, but said the U.S. Embassy and consulates were still operating normally.
