U.S. preparing for dialogue with Iran on Iraq security -report

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States is preparing to open a direct dialogue with longtime adversary Iran on security in Iraq and ways to push back Sunni militants who have taken over large areas of the country, the Wall Street Journal reported on Sunday.Citing senior U.S. officials, the newspaper said the dialogue was expected to begin this week. It comes as the United States and other world powers strive for an agreement with Tehran to curb its nuclear program.

I do know that under Saddam, Iraq was a client state of Russia. They had Russian armaments,Russian advisors throughout their military, etc.

In relation to your point #4, there was no way to keep Iran out of Iraq. With Saddam it was possible, but post-Saddam it wasn't. Iranian regime was overjoyed by Saddam's removal. Malaki I would go as far as to say has always been an Iranian regime's proxy in Iraq, or to put it mildly very chummy with the Iranian regime.

..... Uh Huh ..... And Iraq will request that they be able to build nuclear reactors and maintain a full array of nukes for self defense in response to the request for help .... and Obama will agree, then breath a huge sigh of relief because he was afraid that Iran would request the release of HVT’s from Gitmo. He will actually believe that he has dodged another bullet and brokered a sound and fair deal and, once again, be astonished at the angry reaction of the American people at the agreement.
