The Obama administration said Sunday the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad will remain open amid the growing sectarian violence in Iraq but will increase security and that some embassy staff will be temporarily evacuated.

State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said the staff will be moved to U.S. Consulate Generals posts in Basra and Erbil and to the Iraq Support Unit in Amman, Jordan.

There are a lot of Americans in Iraq. If they get out alive, it won’t be because of this government. Pray. Please.

This embassy cost upwards of ONE BILLION to build. It is super fortified. I will be amazed if ISIS takes it over and takes over Baghdad.

ISIS might try lobbing rockets into it

You must assume they have sleeper cells inside the Green Zone. That would be prudent.

Smart move. They know any request for extra security will be ignored because of some silly YouTube video. Besides, what difference does it make it?

From Sept 2011

American combat troops in Iraq may be heading to the exits — or not — but the U.S. government’s enormously expensive intervention there is hardly coming to an end.

In a telling sign of how dangerous and chaotic Iraq remains more than eight years after President George W. Bush launched the war against Saddam Hussein, U.S. diplomats, military advisers and other officials are planning to fall back to the gargantuan embassy in Baghdad — a heavily fortified, self-contained compound the size of Vatican City.

The embassy compound is by far the largest the world has ever seen, at one and a half square miles, big enough for 94 football fields. It cost three quarters of a billion dollars to build (coming in about $150 million over budget). Inside its high walls, guard towers and machine-gun emplacements lie not just the embassy itself, but more than 20 other buildings, including residential quarters, a gym and swimming pool, commercial facilities, a power station and a water-treatment plant.

Yet the embassy is turning out to be too small for the swelling retinue of gunmen, gardeners and other workers the State Department considers necessary to provide security and “life support” for the sizable group of diplomats, military advisers and other executive branch officials who will be taking shelter there once the troops withdraw from the country.

The number of personnel under the authority of the U.S. ambassador to Iraq will swell from 8,000 to about 16,000 as the troop presence is drawn down

Islam will always be in love with stealth, backstabbing, subversion and intrigue. They are eternal schemers. Nothing is simple and straightforward with these cultists

Hopefully they put a bunch of helicopter landing pads in that embassy.

We are in the Middle East to stay.

The US has a defense pact with Saudi Arabia and we are there to assure the free flow of oil to the world.

Why do you think all these Gulf countries are so filthy rich when they cannot even defend themselves? It’s because of Uncle Stupid’s protection.

We could have been energy independent years ago if we only had the will to do so.

Yeah, I’d say so. I went looking and I saw we gave 120 M198s to Iraq.

In response to your question, obozo works with Al Queda & the Taliban because he is a collaborator with our enemy, the enemy who bombed us on 9/11. He is also working with the communists/socialists/marxists, he being one of them himself. They all want the same thing..to destroy this country and fundamentally turn it into a socialist/communist/marxist/muzzie haven. This was explained by Glenn Beck on Fox TV, when he had his TV program some years ago. Apparently, Glenn learned of this, annonymously I believe, by some insider willing to talk, who provided him with the info, and some hard copy documents, that spelled it all out. They are all in this together, as each has something to gain..the eventual overthrow of this country. Notice how many dangerous muzzies AND commies/socialists, etc. are in positions of power in this country, in our White House, all by design. Obozo is aiding and abetting the enemy, and he's doing it from OUR White House, on OUR shores. As Mark Levin has remarked, we are experiencing a bloodless coup, takeover of this country!

We had better devote all our waking hours, aside from our family & work responsibilities, to the elimination of obozo and his successful attempt, for the most part, to take over this country, or we will lose this country & our freedom & liberty. This is WAR, people! And we're the target...understand this clearly and get off your duffs and become involved with like minded people and work to stopping this enemy, before it's too late. So help us, God.

( Note RPG/grenade/IED defensive measures )

Not even a surprise Delta Force welcome party for them when the arrive at Al-Kindi Street in the International Zone Baghdad?

Apparently they are still hiring:

Any bets that ISIS will avoid the US Embassy like the plague, on the Saudi string?

Do you mean someone at the State Department figured out that you should evacuate Americans who are in danger when a foreign country is either in the middle of a civil war or one is impending? Hmm. I wonder why the “smartest woman in the world” didn’t think of that.

You must be joking. A fixed position can NEVER survive a determined attack. Iwo Jima was

“super fortified” too. How did that work for the Japanese? Whoever was responsible for siting and designing it was dumb enough to put it next to the river on the EDGE of the “Green Zone” instead of the CENTER.

Do the embassy security forces have jurisdiction on or even ACCESS to the Tigris River? After Benghazi do you REALLY trust the State Department to do ANYTHING right when it comes to security?
