Statement by U.S. Army on Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl Investigation
DoD Press Release - News Operations ^ | June 16 , 2014 | DOD

Posted on 06/16/2014 12:17:06 PM PDT by LeoWindhorse

The Army has initiated its investigation into the facts and circumstances surrounding the disappearance and capture of Sgt. Bowe R. Bergdahl from Combat Outpost Mest-Lalak in Paktika Province, Afghanistan on or about June 30, 2009. The Army has appointed as the investigating officer Maj. Gen. Kenneth R. Dahl, an Army officer with Afghanistan combat experience.

The primary function of this investigation, as in any other investigation, is to ascertain facts and report them to the appointing authority. These types of investigations are not uncommon and serve to establish the facts on the ground following an incident. The investigating officer will have access to previously gathered documentary evidence, including the 2009 investigation.

The Army's top priority remains Sgt. Bergdahl's health and reintegration. We ask that everyone respect the time and privacy necessary to accomplish the objectives of the last phase of reintegration. The investigating officer will not interview Sgt. Bergdahl until the reintegration team clears such interaction, so no timeline for completion of the investigation has been set.

Way over kill for a MG. In peace time, would normally be investigated by an O3 or O4. In war time, O5 or O6. Using an O8 indicates that the fix is in.

There almost certainly would have been an investigation conducted right after his “dissappearance”. I doubt we’ll ever see that one.

Watch-out for the whitewash. Persons in the Obama chain of command cannot be trusted to investigate Bergdahl.

I hope there first lead is not a video tape. And I wonder if Pickering is anywhere around this investigation.

easier to find a corrupt general if your CIC than to reach down the ranks.

I'm thinking what you're thinking. Get ready for the waves of sappy crap about how bad his conditions were, and you will hear virtually nothing about what Bergdahl personally did. Quietly, he will be discharged and sink into anonymity.

There are thousands of emails will all be lost. Paper lost too. Investigation will be a farce.

no one with a back bone in the congress. Hoping Gowdy will get it done. They need to change his committee to Impeachment and pursue all crimes.

Harvard also. Looks like a neat little package. MG Dahl has official Afghan street cred to diminish criticism from soldiers account on the ground, and he can do psych speak with the PRCC shrinks at BAMC to conclude that Bergdahl was a mental case all along, can’t be held responsible for his actions, is seperated honorably under medical conditions upon their colective recommendations. Bammy gets Bergdahl out of his news cycle and MG Dahl gets a nice, shiny third star and a Corps command billet.
