It is all a lie. According to the UN Office of Drugs and Crime, the homicide rate is not increasing significantly, and in fact is decreasing, in much of Central America. Here are the statistics showing the change by country in the homicide rate per 100,000 persons from 2009 to 2012 (the latest year for which the UN has published data): Belize 32.2 to 44.7, Costa Rica 11.4 to 8.5, El Salvador 70.9 to 41.2, Guatemala 46.5 to 39.9, Honduras 70.7 to 90.4, Nicaragua 14.0 to 11.3, and Panama 22.6 to 17.2. In the worst country, Honduras, the liklihood of a person being a victim of a homicide is less than 1/10th of one percent. And we are being asked to believe that people are braving the route through Mexico, with criminal predation on an industrial scale, to avoid this possible eventuality. Balderdash. What has changed is the US catch and release policy at the border with regard to accompanied and unaccompanied minors. That is the cause of the surge; not a nonexistent surge in murders in Central America.
So they’re fleeing violence. Not in Costa Rica, Not in Belize, not in Panama, not in Mexico. But ALL THE WAY in the USA. There must be a wormhole where they magically appear at the Texas border as soon as their big toe touches Mexican soil.
