Senators on Tuesday blamed the host of the Dr. Oz Show for contributing to several weight-loss scams, by using his show to promote miracle pills that haven’t been backed up by science.
Dr. Mehmet Oz appeared at a Senate Commerce subcommittee hearing, where senators said Oz has been too careless in describing supplements as “magical” products that can help overweight Americans lose weight quickly.
“Dr. Oz, I will have some tough questions for you today about your role, intentional or not, in perpetuating your scams,” said subcommittee Chairwoman Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.). “When you feature product on your show, it creates what has become known as the Oz effect, dramatically boosting sales and driving scam artists to pop up overnight using false and deceptive ads to sell questionable products.
“While I understand that your message is also focused on basics like healthy eating and exercise, I’m concerned that you are melding medical advice, news and entertainment in a way that harms consumers.”
Oz said he was also upset at the proliferation of weight-loss scams that use his name without permission to sell questionable products. Oz said he has used “flowery language” in the past to describe his support for diet supplements, but been more careful over the last two years to temper his editorial comments about these products.

Dr. Oz is a quack. Always has been.
Commercials for this guy’s show run during our local news program. The women in the audience are shrieking at the top of their lungs-—I guess they moved over after Oprah Winfrey went off the air. As for Oz himself, it’s always a different miracle product/ingredient/food/diet which will “CHANGE YOUR LIFE!”

The actual format of the Dr. Oz show contributes to quakery and promoting alternative duck duck quack quack medicine.
He is more interested in producing a show than honesty.
You cant’ have a daily medical show like his for more than a year without running out of qualified scientifically verified material, however the deep barrel of natural and pop medicine(herbs, supplements, aroma therapy, reiki, holistic, etc, etc) appeals to those in distress and the scamsters in this field grow the breadth and depth of new products continuously.
However, there is some good in natural health, but those products and/or methods usually rise to the top within a 10+ year period and move into respectability. The rest of what is left of the good in natural medicine is herbs,some supplements and 100+ year old remedies(used by doctors of of early 1900’s and earlier) that have been supplanted by more modern effective medicines/drugs. Outside of this area the rest is crap.
I’ve lost all respect of him. Turned into a charlatan.
