Skip to comments.GOP: IRS lost more emails in tea party affair

Republicans on Tuesday charged that the IRS has lost emails of a half dozen of its employees involved in the tea party targeting controversy, including a top aide to the now-fired acting IRS commissioner.
In addition to losing two years worth of emails sent and received by Lois Lerner, the central figure in the scandal, the IRS cannot produce records from six other IRS employees involved in the targeting of conservative groups, Ways and Means Republicans said in a release. That includes Nikole Flax, who was the chief of staff for Steven Miller, the acting IRS commissioner who was fired by President Barack Obama after an inspector general blasted the agency for the inappropriate scrutiny of tax-exempt applications. The IRS did not respond to repeated requests for comment, but at least one top Democrat decried a rush to judgment by Republicans.
It is unfortunate that the IRS experienced equipment failure that resulted in several computers crashing and some email data being lost from Lois Lerners hard drive between 2009 and 2011, Sander Levin, the top Democrat on Ways and Means said. But every equipment failure is not a conspiracy.
The revelation is the latest turn in a scandal that Democrats had hoped would have gone away months ago, but instead continues to be fueled by new accusations that Republicans, and some nonpartisan observers, say require further probe in the run up to the midterm elections.

Sander Levin must the same guy in the Phillipines you get when you call Dell tech support.
Just the Commie-in-Chief’s way of saying, “What you gonna do bout it?”
We all know the answer.
I better rush home so that I can see this lead off the evening news at NBC/CBS/ABC etc. This is the part that is the most unreal....
One person said they read a Peggy Noonan article today which comparies this to Nixon and he said he is leaning that way also.
There are the usual defenders who are saying everybody has to deal with computer crashes but they are getting shot down as many know this is irrelevant.
The really big issue here is not the missing emails. It is: What is the GOP going to do about it?
They haven’t lost squat. They’re hiding them.
“The really big issue here is not the missing emails. It is: What is the GOP going to do about it?”
No, go after the missing emails. Ignore the DOJ. An IRS government contractor is responsible for disaster recovery and the ability to recover emails. Find out who that was and initiate an Inspector General investigation into them for malicious breach of contract and fraud. They will squeal.
What is the GOP going to do about it?
Are you kidding?
They will CONTINUE to impose RomneyCARE/ObamaCARE,
gay marriage, polygamy, bestiality, open borders,
continue to pass Laws only for others,
continue to profit by their EXEMPTIONS,
and continue to ignore criminal behavior and treason.
Past time to build the gallows. They had their chance.
It appears that those “low level IRS employees in Cincinnati” are still running amok.
That’s right, and the GOP should stop saying lost. Call it just what it is to anyone who asks.
Claiming the emails are lost seems like a very dangerous strategy. This data may have been saved redundantly along the way -unofficially. Imagine some technician being told a server was backup and needs to be replaced, they takes it upon themselves to make a copy -just in case.
Otherwise, if an Edward Snowden emerges from the IRS they nuke whatever country he flees too.
If I remember correctly from a Grand Jury stint if the IRS audits you and you cannot find your records they just assume that you are guilty because you can’t prove them wrong, I wonder if the door swings both ways.
And if they find you did something wrong during the audit and they go back several years and you did it wrong in those years they can just assume you have done it wrong for all the years you’ve been paying taxes and no longer have records because they say you only have to keep them 3 years.
at least we know theres at least 6 criminals working at IRS
NOTHING HAS CHANGED!
And how many are saying they don’t care if it’s illegal and a coverup as long as the targets were conservatives?
Some are saying it's the rule of law and if that broke down we'd be in trouble.
Bizarro world, Obama’s government is lawless.
I guess they don’t understand whom they are supporting then.
Ad Hoc rule is part and parcel of leftism.
But I was surprised by the number of people who don't like what's happening with this scandal.
Well, those “don’t care”s are the guys that want the gov’t to be used against their “enemies” regardless of whether it’s lawful to do it or not.
