“The boys deserve whatever they get, according to the media, because they are Jews and Jews have no right to be located anywhere that the Palestinians demand be cleansed of Jewish presence. And the Palestinians demand that Gush Etzion be emptied of Jews. So the boys, who dared to be located in Gush Etzion, had it coming. “

And they did such a good job of making it Judenrein in 1948, too. Can’t these people stay in their place?/s

I disagree with the writer, C.G. because I don't think anyone is blaming the missing teenagers for being Jewish. The more exasperated commentators tend to blame them for hitchhiking - late at night in the Hebron hills - not that it is a safe practice anywhere.

There is a startling article in HaAretz, saying that youths on the West Bank plan to go on hitchhiking because being 'on the road' is the only feeling of freedom that they ever get. Another explanation is given here:

Nitzan Nuriel, a former director of the counterterrorism bureau in the Israeli prime minister’s office, told Israeli television over the weekend that among the settlers, hitchhiking was also an ideology, a statement about who owns the disputed territory, which Palestinians and most of the world consider occupied.

Hitch hiking seems to have a particular cultural significance for Israelis. It is how soldiers return home - there is a notion that everyone owes them a lift. I think it relates to an earlier era - the kibbutz culture.
