On Friday, the Internal Revenue Service informed Congressional investigators that it could not recover two years of emails from Lois Lerner, the former head of the agency's tax-exempt status department. Lerner has been at the center of the investigation into how and why the IRS applied additional scrutiny to the tax-exempt applications of Tea Party-affiliated organizations.

The author, Philip Bump, writes about politics for The Fix. He previously wrote for The Wire, the news blog of The Atlantic magazine. He has contributed to The Daily Beast, The Atlantic, The Daily, and the Huffington Post.

Apparently, he also worked as a "senior designer" at Adobe Systems (of document layer fame). So, I suspect he probably remembers what opendir() is.

Next lie.......
Oddly enough, all government computers containing Lois Lerner emails for JUST that same same time period also crashed...and so did all the backup systems............what a tragic coincidence.........

It doesn’t take a crystal ball to confirm that your prediction is right on point......but the “low information crowd” is too busy texting meaningless nonsense to each other to have a clue about the world and what will happen to them when their i-phone tries to execute them........

They should cut off funding for the IRS until all documents are provided.

Everyone above a certain level should be fired for incompetence if the emails are truly lost. I think the IRS assumes the worst if a taxpayer loses his documentation.

Camp Issa need to subpoena the firewall and exchange server logs form 2009-2011. It will show all activity of Lerner email communications (to from IPs host names). From there subpoena all emails from each recipient.

The news went after Nixon. Why are they not doing the same with Obama?

This fool writes that inbound go to the exchange server and outbound go to the internet (to excuse the loss on cyberspace). Um, all go to exchange first. Exchange then looks at address and routes them internally or externally through gateway router and out to the internet. All emails though are processed initially via the exchange server server and logged.

Or as another FREeeper put it: “Obama just has all the rotten luck in the world. Just when he and his admin were going to hand it all over, this had to go and happen. Talk about dumb luck.”

How many people in this country use email every day?

How many understand how that data is stored?

I guess they want us to believe that Joe's Towing has a more robust IT infrastructure than the IRS.

My guess is that better than 50% of the population is aware that this is total, undiluted bullsh!t.

Sen. Joe McCarthy was correct, if you view "communists" as a subset of "Satan's minions" along with their fellow travelers, the Muslim infiltrators.

Either that or the press is terrified of the Gestapo IRS.

However, there are a majority on the left that will support this lie because they believe that the government SHOULD BE USED to oppress those who disagree with them,

and they applaud leftists in gov’t that do so and get away with it.

It’s icing on the cake that the lie is blatant and that nothing can/will be done about it.

Note the use of the term "folder". That's an end-user syntactic sugary term, abhorred by anyone who's actually aware of computing technology. The proper term was, is and will always be "directory". The system call primitive is, of course, "opendir(2)", specified by POSIX 1-2001. A manpage states:

Yes. That is one of my major peeves. You'd be surprised though, at how many windows "administrators" who never use the proper term. Well maybe not. Personally, it annoys the hel out of me.

I'm guessing so. My current mailbox has maill going back to 2006. I have older stuff archived that goes back to the early 90s in standard mailbox format.

Granted, I am a professional at this stuff. I've managed to maintain my bookmarks since moved from Mosaic to Netscape. Maintaining data integrity isn't really that hard folks.

No emails were LOST.

If they do not exist at this time, then they were hunted down and deleted. This would have been a monstrous undertaking. Hundreds if not thousands of servers would have had to have been searched. Offline as well as online resources would have had to have been searched and altered.

The breadth of this is impressive and also highly illegal.

Something was missed. It always is when it comes to computers. Let the hunt begin...

you can recover emails from a crashed hard drive. Why is nobody interviewing the private companies that do this for a living?

The progressives will stop at nothing to purge conservatives from the political stage. They want a one party, socialist democratic nation.
