A national guest-worker program makes sense and seems to work well in Canada

We have guest worker programs now that admit 650,000 annually.

We all have heard it said many times that America is a land of immigrants, some voluntary and some involuntary.

What nation is not a nation of immigrants? And in fact 85% of us were born here.

Any discussion of immigration reform should include bipartisan solutions to these inducements.

It is not going to be bipartisan when one party is benefiting from the status quo.

People already here illegally could apply for guest-worker status from outside of the country, meaning they would have to leave first. They should in no way be rewarded for having broken our laws, but if they are wise, they would arrange with their employer before they leave to immediately offer them a legal job as soon as their application is received.

Carson is massively ignorant about immigration. Most of these illegal aliens would not even qualify for a tourist visa. The vast majority of the 12 to 20 million illegal aliens in this country have, in addition to violating our sovereignty by entering illegally, committed multiple crimes, a number of them being felonies. They are working illegally, perpetrating ID theft, evading taxes, committing perjury on employment forms, stealing or creating Social Security numbers, driving illegally, etc. Examples of felonies include violation of False Personation of a U.S. Citizen (18 U.S.C. § 911), Fraud and False Statements (18 U.S.C. § 1001), and Social Security Fraud (42 U.S.C. § 408). Violations of these statutes can result in a fine and/or imprisonment up to five years.

In addition, there are crimes of violence, property crimes like vandalism, or other acts like gang activity, drug offenses, and drunk driving. Even John McCain estimated that there were two million criminal aliens who must be deported immediately.

As long as we reward people who break laws, they will continue to break laws. We do need a continual flow of immigrants, but choosers need not be beggars.

And Dr. Carson, how many legal immigrants do we need a year?
