WSJ continues the 'There shall be open borders'.

'Next, we need to do away with the cap on H-1B visas, which is arbitrary and results in U.S. companies struggling to find the high-skill workers they need to continue growing. We already know that most of the applications for these visas are for computer programmers and engineers, where there is a shortage of qualified American candidates. But we are held back by the objections of the richly funded labor unions that mistakenly believe that if we keep innovation out of America, somehow nothing will change. They are wrong, and frankly as much to blame for our stalemate on this issue as nativists who scream about amnesty. '

That is heartless. What does Murdoch know about the average tech worker?

There is rarely a good time to do hard things,

But there is often a rush to do stupid things. How many times do you get the hard sell "you must sign up today or else you will never get the chance again" on a good deal?

Murdoch is another elitist in an ivory tower who couldn’t give a good damn about the middle class. The middle class who are and will witness their incomes plummeting and job prospects dry up by the flood of illegals and increased immigration quotas among other idiotic policies.

If any of this affected the elitists, you wouldn’t be hearing about comprehensive immigration reform.

It all about money.

Ah, financially competitive....that means he wants US wages on the same level as Chinese.

The uber rich are sickening with their posturing on this matter. What good will cheap wages be if nobody can afford to buy your stuff. How on earth did this man accumulate so much wealth without a lick of commonsense?

where there is a shortage of qualified American candidates

My brother, 59 years old, has BS & MS in EE/CS (from first tier universities), is the holder of at least 3 serious patents in the world of internet telephony (he almost invented it), compression circuitry, all the usual and up to date coding languages, 38 years of experience and still willing to grind out the night work. And is looking for a job, as he took a few years off due to family issues.

Not a chance. If you don't look like them, they don't hire you.

Told him to change his name to Govinder, and only do phone interviews, and to fake an English accent with a touch of the Punjab.

He won't do it of course.

But there is no "tech worker shortage", unless you mean "tech workers who aren't white". At least in the Santa Clara Valley.

It's out and out discrimination, and Rupert Murdoch can drag his fake Austrailian butt back to the Outback to peddle this crap.

Happy he did Fox News, but...he don't get the U.S.

PS: Santa Clara Valley figures: Asian Tech workers = 51%, White = 41%, then all the others.

The Americans are the minority here.

I’ll betcha if the U.S. threatened deadly force on anyone violating our border fences, it would stop within minutes.

SCHOLARS DEBUNK CLAIMS OF HIGH-TECH WORKERS SHORTAGE, QUESTION INDUSTRY'S 'FREE PASS'

STUDY FINDS NO SHORTAGE OF HIGH-TECH WORKERS IN U.S.

This has nothing to do with "workers shortage" and everything to do with payroll costs.

“Immigrants enrich our culture and add to our economic prosperity.”

Hmmm...I live 60 miles from the Mexico border. Frankly, I don’t see how bringing in a few million poor Mexicans enriches our culture any, nor do I see how it adds to America’s economic well being.

I do, however, see how it helps folks like Murdock find cheap labor and depress wages for Americans.

BTW - if anyone doubts me, take a look at how well California has done in the last 30 years as it has allowed unfettered access by Mexicans. Think of how LA has changed between 1965 & now, for example. Does ANYONE think today’s LA is a better place to live & work?

I work in the engineering field and to claim there are ne engineers availabl is BS. The influx of H1Bs has gutted the industry. I’m meeting with an engineering group tomorrow for breakfast and 75% are unemployed displaced by the H1Bs, who live five to an apartment, and work for less than half or less than that of what these people made. This was a long time coming and any one in the industry saw it coming over 20 years ago. If your over 50 hone your grocery bagging skills. They can’t ask your age but one look at your resume they can figure out how old you are. Except you’re over qualified an won’t get hired. The same companies that are laying off through attricion have a banner on their web sites fishing for new college grads or H1Bs. Go to any of the many technical forums and read for yourself and don’t take my word for it.

He’s still a FOREIGNER in my books and has NO BUSINESS telling us how to run our country.

...and by the way, his home country, Australia, doesn’t take JACK as far as ILLEGAL Immigration - he might want to go back there and deal with them instead.

Immigrants enrich our culture and add to our economic prosperity.

Illegal immigrants come here poor and go on welfare because they are poor.

Its true, being wealthy doesn’t make one smart or patriotic.
