The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office ruled Wednesday that the Washington Redskins' name is ''disparaging of Native Americans'' and should be stripped of trademark protection - a decision that puts powerful new financial and political pressure on the NFL team to rename itself.
By a vote of 2-1, the agency's Trademark Trial and Appeal Board sided with five Native Americans in a dispute that has been working its way through legal channels for more than two decades.

We need Rush, Beck, Hanity, Levin....these guys need to find out and give us the names of the people who made this decision. No way these people making these decisions should be able to do it without being named.
Since when can Commerce just make up new laws?
So now the Patent Office is the arbiter of what the government finds acceptable? And what ist verbotten!
besides, and this adds to the idiocy of it, Redskins is a compliment, it’s not disparaging
who would name a team after a lot of weaklings?
who would name a team after a lot of weaklings?
How about a new team name: The fighting Bohners?
We have to play serious. Our side has to put real pressure on these people.
the White House Sissies
I find Aunt Jemima and Uncle Ben offensive. Who do I contact?
This should illustrate to everyone how deep the problem is. We are intellectually and morally divided. The people on the other side control the central government.
Here we are 20 trillion in debt with the world collapsing around us and what is Obozo concerned with? . . . a football team that has had its logo for 75 years. Someone posted yesterday that pretty soon hispanic groups are going to protest the Cleveland Browns. Names acceptable to Obozo Washington Transgendereds,
What if you find Marxism offensive?
Pray America wakes up
They should also declare the logos of the Cleveland Indians and the Atlanta Braves offensive. I find the Atlanta Brave’s chant and chop particularly offensive (of course, as a Phillies fan, I would).
This is an OBAMA DECISION!! All Federal Departments, Boards, Commissions, Agency’s and Offices are under the POS. A mere phone call (with Pen) to the right person and the POS gets the job done.
Orwell s world is alive when the PATENT office is now part of the re education process.
This crap really needs to stop.
I will NOT eat at a CRACKER BARREL. I find the term “Cracker” Offensive.
I fully expect the patent office to act equally
Maybe Snider should start with DEMANDING INDIANajax should be offensive. As is INDIANapolis, INDIANa, any city that refers to a Saint, any team with a ‘Religious’ name, lets get those Rivers and Lakes while we are at it.
Colts, Cowboys, Mustangs, Stallions etc should also be banned.
All players with the name of Mohhamed (First or Last)
I am sure if we try hard enough we can just about BAN everything.
Gentlemen and Gentleladies, we have crested the mountain and heading towards the valley at full speed and no brakes.
The ride will not kill you, it is the sudden stop that will do us in as there is virtually NO WAY this can be completely turned around.
Just like a Drunk or Junkie, ‘You ain’t seen nothing till you hit the bottom’.
I emailed the U.S. Patent Office and told them I find Aunt Jemima and Uncle Ben racially offensive and that they should cancel their trademarks.
The bigger question is, why was it OK for the previous 70-100 years?
You forgot Red Man Tobacco (don’t use it, but I’ve seen it).
Next: You won’t be able to call Communists “Reds”. Not even “Pinkos”.
Presbyterian College Blue Hose
That’s gotta be offensive to somebody!
Forgot to add
When we let them ‘do away’ with the “Frito Bandito” no one realized the downward spin we would take.
Of course, bumbling, idiotic WHITE MEN are good for the advertising world to ridicule and since ‘they’ insist WE are the majority AND don’t really have a say in it (OR CARE) it will only get ‘worse’.
Good catch. I’ll put that on the list, too.
This could be fun.
I am concerned about what they are going to call my favorite potatoes.
That is exactly why these offices are infested with leftists.
Positions of unaccountable power over others attract leftists like moths to a porch light.
Obviously, this is the greatest problem facing our nation today.
Obama is pulling every squirrel he can find out of every orifice at this point. ANYTHING but the IRS, Bengazzi, Iraq, the NSA, The VA, the invasion of the United States...anything.

Like rabid animals, they jump on their liberal cause to eliminate the name of the “RedSkins”.
You don’t like it?, Too bad, live with it!
I don’t like the “Ebony” magazine but do you see anyone jumping on the cause to remove or change the name?.......
You know, I hated Bill Clinton and all the Chinese money and Lewinsky shenanigans . . But he is looking like George Washington compared to this manchurian leftist muslim.
Rush said this yesterday, and I tend to go along with it.
The fedgov, ie, OBAMA, is specifically targeting the Redskins because the owner was defiant.
Corporations all over the United States use “Indian” names, and companies have logos and trademarks with “Indian” themes. From the blue-eyed woman in “Indian Princess” garb on the door of the trucks of the “Navajo” trucking company to the “Indian princess” depicted on the Land ‘O Lakes butter packages, stereotypical images of Native Americans are everywhere.
Many corporations add insult to injury by not only appropriating Native images and traditions, but scrambling them in the process. Tuscarora Yarns, for example, has chosen to represent itself with a logo that is a stereotypical image of a Native American in a Northern Plains Indian eagle feather headdress, often misnamed a “war bonnet.” My grandfather —a full blood Cherokee and Tuscarora — was born and raised in North Carolina, the traditional homeland of both these Native peoples. Knowing this, I educated myself about everything I could that related to both nations. Anyone else who took the trouble to do so would know that Tuscarora people did not wear this type of regalia.
The next Republican in the WH will need a toilet plunger in every agency of government...
The name of a Washington State Indian reservation high school team mascot is the Red Devils.
The name is ethnically and religiously non PC...... but they chose it.
(I was there and saw it on the signboard at the highschool)
The image of a band of heroic warriors is considered insulting.
Tells us something about leftists.
IIRC, Tuscaroras are located in the northeast? I used to see the name in accounts of the French & Indian War of the 1750’s.
And King Philip wouldn’t know what to do with a feather headdress, either.
Indian, America’s First Motocycle.
The 450 Companies That Still Have Indian Mascots
A federal agency has ruled that the Washington Redskins’ name disparages Native Americans. Hundreds of other companies use Native American images to sell their wares. Here’s what their logos look like
The Washington Redskins lost their trademark (pending appeal) on Wednesday after a federal agency ruled that the football teams name is disparaging to Native Americans.
While the team will no longer have exclusive rights to its name, it is far from the last business to use Native American imagery in its merchandise. The United States Patent and Trademark Office categorizes all logos by the images they contain. Those records include over 600 active trademarks for insignia that feature Native American men and women, registered to 450 different companies. In most cases, no one is accusing these companies of disparagement. If faced with an action the agency evaluates whether trademarks were disparaging at the time of their registration.
Heres a look at all the Native American imagery trademarked in the U.S. from the now-defunct Redskins logo to Land OLakes butter and American Spirit cigarettes.
I smell a Holder in the woodpile.
Thank GOD someone posted this article... LOL! :)
Just rename them. Get rid of the name Washington, because he probably owned slaves. Name them for the town they are in, Landover. And call them the Landover Rednecks. Cuz crackas can’t be offended.
In other articles, reporters and bloggers have done other searches and found a number of “offensive” terms that are still subject to active, renewed patents. Words that slur other ethnic groups at least as much as “redskins.”
In Native Choktaw, “Oklahoma” means “red people” I expect all federal funds to be suspended immediately...
