Madison Prosecutors allege that Gov. Scott Walker was at the center of an effort to illegally coordinate fundraising among conservative groups to help his campaign and those of Republican senators fend off recall elections during 2011 and '12, according to documents unsealed Thursday.
In the documents, prosecutors lay out what they call a "criminal scheme" to bypass state election laws by Walker, his campaign and two top deputies R.J. Johnson and Deborah Jordahl.
The governor and his close confidants helped raise money and control spending through 12 conservative groups during the recall elections, according to the prosecutors' filings.
The documents include an email in which Walker tells Karl Rove, former top adviser to President George W. Bush, that Johnson would lead the coordination campaign. Johnson is also chief adviser to Wisconsin Club for Growth, a conservative group active in the recall elections.
"Bottom-line: R.J. helps keep in place a team that is wildly successful in Wisconsin. We are running 9 recall elections and it will be like 9 congressional markets in every market in the state (and Twin Cities)," Walker wrote to Rove on May 4, 2011.
A federal judge unsealed the court documents Thursday as part of a lawsuit attempting to halt the secret investigation into the so-called John Doe probe into the recall elections.
The lawsuit was brought by Wisconsin Club for Growth and one of its directors, Eric O'Keefe. They allege the probe has violated their First Amendment rights to free expression and persuaded U.S. District Judge Rudolph Randa to halt the investigation, at least for the time being.

Too bad Obama is not bound by the laws of the State of Wisconsin.
Love how the lib media writes headlines like this (with “criminal” blaring in headline). Whereas things like the IRS scandal go like: ‘IRS turns over thousands of emails; Some unrecoverable.’
The way this is going Hillary will have no one to run against.
After Romney lost, there were names at top of list: Gov McDonnell (Prosecuted), Gov Christie (Bridgegate, Feds still investigating), Gov Walker (Being Prosecuted)...
Obama & Holder are like third world dictators, prosecuting political opponents.
Heard the tail end of the news last night - something about Tom Delay’s appeal which he won being overturned. This is getting to be ridiculous.
“I wonder daily whether well resolve this without bloodshed.”
It might be decades hence, but I’m sure we’ll have another civil war in this country.
Out government is waging very nearly a war against 1/2 the population, that’s not really going to continue without active resistance.
Oh, I’m not worried. I’ve been following this and know of the judge’s ruling. :)
It’s just so d@mn annoying. I wish the GOP had this same Take No Prisoners attitude!
Voter fraud?
More John Doe nonsense aimed at Scott Walker. (The headline is misleading.)
FReep Mail me if you want on, or off, this Wisconsin interest ping list.
More propaganda BS.
I thought prosecuters prosecute. If he’s at the heart of an illegal scheme, prosecute. Otherwise, if these are federal prosecuters, find something else to do. The IRS perhaps. Or help the Attorney Generals of Nevada and Idaho (? bordering state) open a federal grand jury to investigate Harry Reid.
"The accusation of any wrongdoing written in the complaint by the office of a partisan Democrat District Attorney by me or by my campaign is categorically false. In fact two judges, in both state and federal courts, have ruled that no laws were broken. This is nothing more than a partisan investigation with no basis in state law. Its time for the prosecutors to acknowledge both judges orders to end this investigation. Now my Democratic opponents will use these false accusations to distract from the issues important to the voters of Wisconsin."
Other than a handful of Reps and Senators, it would appear that most Republican politicians are among the most naive individuals in the world and they for sure have no street smarts. Nothing is ever over with the Democrats and the Republicans just don’t seem to get it.
Regarding Delay, this issue has been going on since 2002. Seems like he has pretty much been minding his own business and staying out of the limelight so not sure what prompted this latest ploy other than Democrat politics raising its ugly head in Austin. They just never go away. We’d be a whole lot better off if Mexico would annex Austin.
Will be interesting to see what happens in Austin when Abbott and Patrick - who both appear likely to win in November - take over for Perry and Dewhurst.
Tom Delay for Speaker!
Tom Delay for Speaker!”
I wish!
