We'd had a lot of deserations at Valley Forge, Tarawa, the Bulge, just to name a few right off the top of my head. Correct me if I am wrong eagleone. The contraction, "we'd", was used for the two word combination of, "we would". I am guessing that you were trying to say: We would have had a lot of desertions. That puts a whole different spin on your post.
