The US has brought more fans to Brazil than any other country and this may be a genuine tipping point....

A recent ESPN poll found that among Americans aged 12-17, football was now neck and neck with baseball in terms of popularity, and well ahead of ice hockey. A Washington Times survey found that almost a third of Americans planned to watch at least some of the tournament. The New York Times has splashed the World Cup over its front page several times in recent weeks. Beneath the surface, the last four years have seen the emergence of magazines such as Howler and Eight By Eight, covering the game with the same depth and detail as any European publication.

Football!. For boys and men not man enough to play real rugby.

And who’d want to play baseball?. Boring sport based on an English girls game. With a bit of cricket thrown in. Dullsville.

To be fair, paint drying is still more interesting than baseball and takes less time to happen than it or an average NFL game.

Meh, youre there already.

Football (rugby for wimps) with its cute pads. And baseball hardly has ‘athletes’, does it.

Well done, you picked one of the two matches in this WC which haven’t been cracking games.

This WC has been great so far, the games have been edge of the seat stuff. Comebacks, shock results, great goals and play. Best WC since France 1998 imo.

My Polish-Lithuanian-Ukrainian forebears would probably not shed a tear if Russia got their head handed to them ...

(Come to think of it... ;)

At one time, I was a huge Astros baseball fan. I always defended the game against people who called it boring. I remember watching a 20 inning Astros game until 2:00 A.M. and loving it. Now, I can scarcely get through a game. I wish I still enjoyed it, but I don't.
