Rand Paul Defends President Obama From Dick Cheney
National Review ^ | 06/20/14 | Joel Gehrke

Sen. Rand Paul (R., Ky.) defended President Obama from former vice president Dick Cheney’s critiques of his policy in Iraq, saying that he faults Cheney and the rest of President George W. Bush’s team for launching an invasion of Iraq that ultimately strengthened Iran.

“What’s going on now, I don’t blame on President Obama,” Paul told NBC’s David Gregory. “But I do blame the Iraq War on the chaos that is in the Middle East. I also blame those who were for the Iraq war for emboldening Iran.”

I think there is plenty enough blame to go around: for those who started it and for those who couldn’t be bothered to finish it.

Iraq would be a bargain at 10,000 American dead, 100,000 severely wounded, and $2 trillion in expenditure. This is why it doesn’t matter that the neo-cons said it would be a walk in the park, our soldiers would be welcomes, and that would pay for itself. Because even if they informed Congress of the true cost, we still would have done it.

Oh, the fact that the Republicans lost the Congress in 2006 and the White House in 2008, and we wound up with Obamacare and a flood of illegals, marriage equality, and a doubling of the national debt, yes, we would still invade Iraq. National bankruptcy, hyperinflation, millions of roving zombies, the CDC releasing anthrax, NSA spying on us, getting audited by the IRS, drone strikes on Americans in America, flushing the entire country down the toilet, no cost would have been too high.

I have much more faith and trust in Dick Cheney than Rand Paul.

ISIS is proof we din’t go far enough. Should have taken out Syria too and put Iran on notice. Obama agrees with you and Rand, though. Rand Paul is batcrazy, but Obama can’t wait for the Islamic fascists to threaten and possibly take over the entire region and beyond, ie, Arab Spring. If so, WWIII here we come.

I expect such embarrassing reductionism and Post hoc ero propter hoc thinking from the Left, but to see it in such high supply on our side of the aisle makes me grimace.

What a buffoon, this is a peek into the nothing candidacy he's got to offer.

On occasion he goes in the right direction and does or says the right thing, but on the whole he seems to go the way of his dad. They saw one and a half legs off the Reagan three legged stool and wonder why it wobbles for them.

There were forces in play to denude both our overt and covert powers in dealing with threats long before Bush 1, Bush 2, Clinton, and Obama. Obama happens to be both clueless and mendacious in treating of American principles as our founders envisioned them, but he is not the one who started it. “Walk softly and carry a big stick” seemed to work well in the past. The past decades seem to tilt the other direction.

"Randy is such a card."

Nope, he's TWO cards, jack and ace.

Randy has never seen a camera he doesn't like. I'm sure he's pulled ahead of John McPain this year when it comes to numbers of network interviews and punditry shows....and waaay ahead of Gloria Swanson when it comes to finding a TV camera in the halls of Congress and vamping himself in front of it.

And his mouth is spouting off all the time. He leaves no issue unturned. However, I've always said that sooner or later that tiny Paul's big yap will get him in doo-doo he will never get out of. He's getting closer every day. Today just may be a pre-Waterloo moment for him. A lot of folks across the fruited plain like and respect the Cheneys, all three of them.

If the GOP manages to elect a president in 2016, Rand wouldn't even be on my list for a political appointment as our consul general in Transylvania.

The best mix is Big C Conservativism / Little L libertarianism that only applies the Little L ONLY to the country’s population and not to aliens.

This is the biggest issue I have with Big L libertarians is that they think they can apply an internal policy concerning individual freedom to the rest of the world that is built and raised on tyranny and has never tasted true freedom...

Keep alienating that base, senator. Surely the points you’re winning with people that hate what you claim to stand for will make up for it.

I have admired Paul and defended him here more than once. It gets harder to do, though.

Well. Almost impossible now.

See, this is a problem. The DemonRats circle the wagons and defend MORONS and attack GOOD MEN.

Rand is demonstrating the opposite. As do the GOP leaders.

It is one reason why I say the Republicans today are like the Democrat party of the 1980s.

Wait a minute! Are you sure that is not the perfect spot for him? ...it could be a 'night-time' appointment... ;-D

Well, he's becoming a little batty in his recent statements, so he probably would fit okay into that post.

Of course, he could only work nights....
