Since signing the Oslo agreement in 1993, Israel has made a series of astounding concessions, which did nothing but produce further Palestinian demands for even more far-reaching concessions.

Indeed, as Jonathan Tobin rightly points out (Commentary, June, 16), the claim that “Israelis have blocked all other paths for the Palestinians except violence…is, to put it bluntly, a lie. It is the Palestinian Arabs who have consistently and repeatedly rejected offers of peace and statehood…”

Why the Israelis just don't ‘’take the garbage’’ out of the Middle East once and for all is beyond me. Cryin' out loud they could do it in a day and we'd all be living in a much better world. They have a bunch of loony leftists who make our occupy crowd look like Tea Party conservatives. They’re vocal and LOUD. The government can’t shoot them. Sometimes they represent a more powerful voice in Israeli politics and the way their government is set up, they must be allowed at the table. (It’s either that or shoot them.) They’re the ones behind all the land giveaways, which have never worked. So, if something doesn’t work try it again only bigger and better this time.

Israel can’t shoot the Palestinians as they’ll then face violence and riots from their own loons. Any move against them will get their parents and relatives in on the act, just making them bigger and thornier.

The Zionist Left that founded Israel is gone. For David Ben Gurion and the early Labor Zionists, socialism took a back seat to Zionism. For them, creating a Jewish State was the main aim of their life. And they were prepared to compromise with those they disagreed on ideology in the pre-state Yishuv to attain it. Mapai was always a Zionist party first.

Today the Israeli Left is completely hostile to Zionism. The chattering classes in Israel advocate the country’s destruction. Their commitment to the so-called “peace process” has become a religion divorced from all rationality. Their identification with Israel’s enemies is identical and for all practical purposes - absolute. One cannot be a Leftist and remain a committed Zionist.
