George Will isn’t backing down, even as critics are “calling for [his] head.”
Will’s Washington Post column on sexual assault stirred up a great deal of controversy, as he acknowledged in an interview with C-SPAN published Friday.
“Today, for some reason … indignation is the default position of certain people in civic discourse,” he said. “They go from a standing start to fury in about 30 seconds.”
The internet has “erased the barriers of entry to public discourse,” Will said, which is good because more people can be involved in conversations, but it’s bad because a lot of those people aren’t that bright.
“Among the barriers of entry that have been reduced, is you don’t have to be able to read, write, or think,” he said. “You can just come in and shout and call names and carry on.”
In his controversial column and in the Friday interview, Will argued that progressives on college campuses are eroding centuries of legal precedent while feeding into misplaced fears about a “supposed campus epidemic of rape.”
Will criticized rape and sexual assault statistics put out by the Obama administration and blamed progressivism for potentially ruining the lives of young men who, rather than being clearly-defined rapists, are swimming in the ”sea of hormones and alcohol that gets [them] into so much trouble on campuses.”
If liberals truly take rape and sexual assault to be serious crimes, Will argued, they should not seek to blur distinctions between different kinds of assault, nor should they call, as the the Education Department has, for using the “preponderance of the evidence” standard in sexual assault cases.

Oh he has always been to me, mr token conservative for the Washington Post(usually also published in the NY Times) He relishes the status quo of moderate republicans who will always be second fiddle to the Dhimmicrats.
I assume he has a right of center bent. But he considers the people who will make real change as enemies thus he is my enemy. No quarter in this time of the new Marxist paradigm we have been thrust into.
George Will certainly takes a lot conservative positions but he is also an outspoken atheist who says that being homosexual is simply like being left-handed. He is not a social conservative.
Keep in mind that in 1980 Will thought Howard Baker was a better candidate than Ronald Reagan.
supports path to citizenship, supported Obama in 2008... did not care for Sarah Palin as VP but thought Obama was good for President? no to troops in Afghanistan, opposes the death penalty, and thinks Newt Gingrich embodies all that is wrong with DC... but yes, he is for lower taxes, against the minimum wage and was also against the stimulus plans...

For feminists, its the seriousness of the rape charge that matters, not the actual evidence or doctrine of innocent-until-proven guilty or accused entitled to due process. Seriousness of charges trumps everything else. They like to just accuse rape and not have to endure due process or produce evidence - oh that would be so much humiliation, that they should be able to just hang the accused just because of seriousness of accusation. This is how shrill feminists have become and they fish for rape horror stories in third world countries to build their narrative.
