Suspect in Phoenix priest attacks to appear in court

A homeless ex-convict who police say beat a priest with a metal rod and fatally shot another clergyman in their Phoenix church is set for a court appearance.

Gary Michael Moran is held on $1 million bond. He is accused of first-degree murder, burglary and armed robbery, among other charges. He has not yet entered a plea and is set for court Monday morning.

On the plus side, the only debate at this point is whether he will spend the rest of his natural life in prison, or if Arizona will execute him.

Given the circumstances, I anticipate the latter.

His finger was injured in the beating. He probably should have armed himself before opening the door to investigate.
