How Marissa Mayer Fell Asleep and Kept Ad Executives Waiting For Hours
Wall Street Journal ^ | 6/23/14 | SUZANNE VRANICA

For media companies, the Cannes advertising festival is all about getting face time with top media buyers and advertisers. Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer missed a golden opportunity to do just that last week.

Last Tuesday evening, Interpublic Group arranged a private dinner at the swanky L’Oasis for Ms. Mayer to meet executives from marketers such as Mondelez International MDLZ, brewer MillerCoors and Greek yogurt maker Chobani. It was supposed to be a chance for Interpublic and some of its clients to get a first hand update from Ms. Mayer on what Yahoo has to offer.

But Ms. Mayer was nearly two hours late, and several dinner attendees including IPG Chief Executive Michael Roth ended up leaving before she arrived, people familiar with the matter said.

Ms. Mayer told some attendees that she had fallen asleep, some of the people said.

“If it were an investor meeting, a board meeting or a potential acquisition, I am sure she or someone from her team would have woken her up,” said one top executive in attendance. “It is another instance where she demonstrated that she doesn’t understand the value of clients, ad revenue or agencies,” the person added.

Or...

She misses Google so much that...

She could be looking for a way to devalue Yahoo, which would make it easier for Google, her first love, to acquire her company.

Pretty stupid for her to snub the advertisers that pay Yahoo’s bills and employees salaries.

She’s so important and brilliant, she doesn’t need clients.

Perhaps that's just as well. I have noticed in the past few months that Yahoo's e-mail service has gotten worse. It used to be that you could sort e-mails in the inbox alphabetically by sender, which facilitated deleting unwanted e-mails in bulk, but that is no longer the case. And they now run ads to the right of the text of the e-mail, which after a while becomes annoying to the reader. If you don't want the ads, you have to pay a fee.

I've diverted most of my Yahoo e-mail to my Google account.

She’s pretty good looking...and I think that is what got her to where she is today. I’ve read several articles over the past 6 months about how things at Yahoo are getting worse since she was hired.

Yahoo devotes most of its time to the Kardashians, and Homo news. She screwed up the sports and finance section of Yahoo...the only reason why I used to visit the web site. Now, if I go to Yahoo by accident, I can actually feel my brain cells dying as I read the headlines. They are trying to out-trash People Magazine.

I’m guessing that jet lag had something to do with this. That said, you would think that a “high powered executive” like this would know enough to either:

a) Get some sleep on the plane there (private jet, no less), or

b) Have one of her underlings (um, assistants) make sure she was awake and ready for the event.

Plus, she hired Katie Couric at $6 mill/year.

I wouldnt exactly call her super hot. She’s definitely attractive, in a cute-girl-next-door sort of way, but otherwise maybe slightly above average when it comes to hotness.

Then again, compared to IT industry geek chicks she is pretty smoking. So it’s all relative. I also come at it from the perspective of having worked in IT (hardware and software dev) where she’s probably in the top two or three of women I’ve known but also having married to a Kentucky horse country sorority girl and having been consistantly exposed to true hotness over the last 20 or so years ...

Remember, A gay Obama sycophant is the head of NBC News. He was involved in some controversy a couple of years ago, but I can’t find anything on it searching, not even his name. How strange....
