Homophobia is a very misleading word. People don't fear homosexuals, they're disgusted by them. A more accurate term would be homotaedium.

My earlier post was over the top sarcasm. So much so, that I didn't think a tag was necessary. You are right about the bad etymology of the word. Using Greek roots, it would simply mean an "irrational fear of sameness." It is a phony word to help the perverts frame the discussion.
