Democrats Put Cochran Over The Top
NRO ^ | John Fund

You have to hand it to the GOP establishment. When their interests are threatened, they pull out all the stops. They demonstrated that in dragging GOP senator Thad Cochran across the finish line in tonight’s runoff in Mississippi.

Imagine if a tea-party candidate in some state had openly appealed to registered Libertarians to help him win a close primary runoff. There would have been howls of outrage that people who didn’t agree with Republican values on social issues and foreign policy were being invited to decide a GOP race. Well, Thad Cochran’s allies performed a version of that ploy tonight by openly encouraging liberal Democrats to vote in the primary. Turnout was up by some 15 percent from the June 3 contest between Cochran and Chris McDaniel. The New York Times reported that “turnout increased by 92 percent in Jefferson County, the county where black voters represent the largest share of eligible voters in the country.”

Isn’t Mississippi considered to be one of the most conservative states?

I believe Thad’s minions scoured heavily Dim districts and accused the opposition of being racist. They probably got a lot of Dim votes that way.

I heard the robo call they sent to black voters on Hannity last night. It was disgraceful. Basically calling McDaniel a racist and saying the Tea Party is opposed to the first black president and standing in the way of Obamas agenda. Stop the Tea Party and support Obama by voting for Thad. Something along those lines.

This is called “winning dirty”. Among sports teams, it is considered to be tantamount to cheating by sly methods to gain victory. The Chicago White Sox team was famous (or notorious) for exploiting these tactics to fight their way to prominence, and among Chicago fans, much greater support.

The rest of the league pretty much despised the White Sox, though.

Why am I not surprised?

If McDaniel has any funds left, he should use that ad during the general.

“Support Obama by voting for Thad.”

And the ENTIRE gOp Establishment - led by McConnell, Rove, Barbour - should be tarred by this as willing supporters of these despicable tactics.

McConnell must condemn this or be sent home in November. At a minimum, he should condemn this or resign as the Minority Leader immediately.

Just imagine either Harry Reid or DW Schultz doing something like this - appealing to Republicans with scurrilous lies to drag a primary candidate across a finish line!

Thats the argument. While the rules allow for an open primary. It also states that it means you intend to vote for same candidate (party affiliation) in the general. Which is impossible to enforce.

Sometimes victories are pyrrhic. I remember GHW Bush basically dismissing the conservatives in the party (associating with them just wouldn’t do at the country club) and then begging for our support in 1992. Well, there was an alternative, Ross Perot as crazy as he was, and he got 20 percent of the vote while Bush ended up losing with 37 percent.

Maybe all the conservatives should vote for the Democrat in the general election. Better to have an enemy than an enemy who plays at being your ally.

I hope the pig loses in the general election.

I’d rather have someone come at me with a knife where I can see him, than to stab me in the back like this RAT.
