Flores, Gohmert Introduce Bill to Find Missing IRS Emails

06/25/14

WASHINGTON D.C. – U.S. Representatives Bill Flores (R-Texas) and Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) have introduced legislation that provides incentives to find former IRS director Lois Lerner’s missing emails.

“I find it very hard to believe that the emails from Lois Lerner are lost and unrecoverable. It is very convenient that the IRS is unable to turn over any of the communications from the central figure responsible for the inappropriate targeting of conservative groups. We will not sit idly by as the IRS continues to work to cover up its blatant abuse of government power,” Congressman Flores said.

"It seems that each time the IRS has evidence that will either prove with certainty its guilt or innocence, the evidence disappears which both common sense and the law indicate the evidence such as emails must have proved the IRS’s impropriety if not outright crimes. It is time the IRS either comes clean, or has a special prosecutor to clean it up. This bill should help in the interim," Congressman Gohmert said.

The Identify and Recover Sent E-mails (IRS) Act (H.R. 4958) would award any individual or group who can recover Lois Lerner’s lost emails $1,000,000 and award $500,000 for information regarding the destruction of the emails that can be used for prosecution of the individuals involved. These rewards would come from the unobligated balances from the IRS fiscal year 2014 budget. Additionally, this legislation would cut salaries at the IRS by 20 percent, until the emails are recovered.

“Lois Lerner’s involvement in the planning and execution of beliefs-based IRS targeting can only stay hidden for so long. By providing these incentives we can get people to reveal the hidden truths behind this egregious cover up,” Flores stated. “It is time to hold the IRS’ feet to the fire and for them to come clean about Lois Lerner’s involvement. I remain committed to uncovering the truth and ensuring that all federal agencies are working to serve the American public with integrity and fairness.”

Text of the IRS Act can be found at flores.house.gov/uploads/hr4958.

Congressman Bill Flores represents the 17th District of Texas and is an entrepreneur, former energy executive, Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and member of the House Budget, Natural Resources and Veterans’ Affairs Committees.

And what authority would any individual or group have? This bill grants no authority.

I don’t know, Ray, here’s the language of the bill:

Rewards taken from the IRS budget? Then double them!

Is this for real? It reads like an onion piece.

Problem is, the corrupt one would have to sign the bill, right?

And what authority would any individual or group have? This bill grants no authority.

Why is some bill required? Isn't a subpoena from the House good enough? If they ignore subpoenas, does anyone think they would cooperate with people who have no authority, to get into their computer systems to find the e mails?

It would never get to the corrupt one, because the corrupt one in the Senate would stop it.

It’s from Congressman Flores official website, so that makes it real, I suppose.

But Obama would have to sign the bill. What am I overlooking besides this is an election year?

I don’t think Flores or Gohmert are doing this as an election year stunt. More likely to find out who will sign on as co-sponsors.

You can bet that Barry and the ‘RATS have already hired some computer “experts” to track down all of these emails and destroy them. The House is too slow on the draw.

How about someone who had been a recipient of missing Lerner emails? Perhaps they could turn them over on their own authority. As I said, I don’t know, but we all do things on our own authority every day.

If I’m a recipient of Lerner emails that I’ve hard copied and filed away, I have no need for access from the IRS or anyone else. Think outside the box, Ray.

An individual can provide a limited number of “lost” emails. Having not recovered all the “lost” email they will not receive the $1,000,000 provided by this Bill.

It’s not a question of “thinking outside the box”, but of being realistic.

A totally useless bill to go with the totally useless lawsuit by Boner.

Where are the REAL MEN in Congress? What’s with these idiotic symbolic do-nothing gestures? Which GOPer will be the first to introduce a powerful hashtag? #WeLoveOurConstitution? #StopObama? #EmbraceFreedom?

Well, it's nice of them to try to do something through normal channels but I think Ole’ Barry boy needs something that's a little more “industrial" strength.

He's gonna' have to be dragged off in the end isn't he?

It’s definitely a matter of thinking outside the box since neither of us know the answer to your original question or how many emails are missing.

Realistically speaking, it is clear that Flores and Gohmert need to put some meat on the bones of their bill, on that we should agree.

Well I wish John and Jane Doe good luck.

Congress has subpoena power, John and Jane do not.

John and Jane better have a lawyer on speed-dial.

If the Bill gives individuals or groups authority then it would be something more than posturing, although I don’t see how random citizens can be given the authority necessary. Perhaps if Congress designated particular individuals or companies, but not otherwise.

How about someone who had been a recipient of missing Lerner emails?

That is one of the methods they have been using to retrieve her emails. Although they have been able to retrieve thousands of emails, It is still an incomplete picture of her email.
