Tea party leader: Chris McDaniel should run as write-in candidate in November election
The Washington Times ^ | June 25, 2014 | By Seth McLaughlin

The head of tea party group said Wednesday that state Sen. Chris McDaniel should wage a write-in campaign in the November election after losing to Sen. Thad Cochran in a nasty Mississippi primary race.

Judson Phillips, the vocal leader of Tea Party Nation, an online group that backed Mr. McDaniel in the race, said that Mr. Cochran and his allies made it abundantly clear in the contest that the “RINO wing” of the Republican party will do whatever it can to stay in power — in this case by reaching out to Democrats.

“When the Republican Establishment acts like Democrats, what is the point of supporting them?” Mr. Phillips said in an early morning email blast. “The answer is, we don’t have to.

“Every McDaniel supporter in Mississippi from DeSoto County in the North to Biloxi in the South should stand up today and tell Chris McDaniel that if he runs as a write-in candidate in November, they will support him,” he said.

How much support did Thad Cochran get from the GOP and associated PACs?

Does anyone have a list? Crap like this is what I’ve been throwing back at the GOP/PACs when they call for money.

So, this is the last thing you were going to post before going to work. I get it now. Anyway, this guy is right. There is no need to support Cochran. We shall see, but it is possible he will lose his a$$ in November. My feeling is, that not many conservatives will vote for a rat, as much as they will sit it out. Cochran may be in for a shock.

Give it up, Mississippi has a sore loser law.

A “sore-loser law” states that the loser in a primary election can’t then run as an independent in the general election These laws do not apply to presidential candidates
States that have sore-loser laws

Mississippi
Ohio
Pennsylvania
South Dakota
Texas

“Give it up, Mississippi has a sore loser law”

The article clearly stated he should run as a write in candidate not on the ballot as an Indy.

Seeing that it took me only 15 seconds to determine that Mississippi has a sore loser law, just how much credence does that give Judson Phillips in the arena of knowing what he is talking about.

The phonies that are the titular heads of these get rich quick national tea party groups are never more revealed as in this race. All of them were there in Mississippi but nobody wanted anything to do with David Brat.

It is nothing more than send me money so I can make a living flapping my jaw about things I know nothing about. Did you know that virtually all of them are agitators with histories as political consultants? Just the kind of people I want to send my money to, NOT!

McDaniel is married to Jill Tullos McDaniel, 1995 Miss Mississippi USA.

His wife didn’t lose an election did she?

Anyone remember the widow Carnahan????

But to the notion that he can mount a write-in victory without a single Democrat crossing for him is now laughable. The only way Murky did it was to enlist her liberal pals.

If McDaniel has aspirations to run for the U.S. Senate again in six years, he would be better served by conceding graciously and focusing on improving his record in the state senate. Even before the campaign, he had the worst attendance record of any sitting state senator and of the 38 bills he has introduced, none have passed. He would not win in a write-in campaign. All it would do is siphon votes from Cochran and give Democrats a better chance of picking up the seat. Tea Party members and those who align with McDaniel may not care much for Cochran, but they should care about keeping the seat in Republican hands until they can groom McDaniel better or find another candidate they think can win in six years.

What’s wrong with reaching out to Democrats. Ronald Reagan would won the presidency in no small part to “Reagan Democrats.” Excluding anyone from the Republican Party only makes it harder to win elections. For example, the current issue of the New Yorker has a lengthy, mostly-positive article on Ted Cruz. However, it mentions that at the most recent Texas Republican Convention, the John Birch Society was allowed to have a booth, but the Log Cabin Republicans were not.

“The article clearly stated he should run as a write in candidate not on the ballot as an Indy.”

I will revise and extend my earlier remarks.

But Austin Barbour, a campaign adviser to Mr. Cochran, said Mr. McDaniel had run out of options. Mr. Barbour said that a write-in campaign would be illegal under Mississippi law — the ballots would be thrown out — and that Mr. McDaniel had missed the deadline to get on the ballot as an independent.

Not sure about the posting of links to stories but this appeared in the NYT as part of a larger article. Curious that the campaign adviser is a Barbour.

Yeah, for sure. There’s always been some cross-over mischief in the open primary (mostly southern) states. But, this may be the first of this magnitude. Now, that it’s become so obvious how gaming the system can change election results we can expect this tactic to be expanded. Probably, the solution will be to eliminate open primaries.

I would not vote for Cochran in November.

If Mississippi is gonna elect a big government, self interested nanny, let it be a Democrat.

Funny that I heard something to the effect that the same Barbour was who the GOP-e want in Thad’s seat in a year or so. Thad is being used as a place holder so that Haley can stick his son in the seat after Thad makes a claim that he must step down due to health issues.
Kind of sheds light on the cockroaches if they pull this off.

That would be the solution, but then again, what has the establishment Republicans done in the search for, and implementations of solutions? The only solutions they are interested in are ways to further entrench themselves in power.

The corrupt cannot fix a corrupt system. It is the Parties who decide about open or closed primaries and given the results of this one, what Democrat in that state would approve elimination of their new found way to emasculate the opposition?

This move by the Republican establishment will be their Waterloo. I will not cast a vote for an establishment Republican just as I won’t cast a vote for a Democrat. By working my votes for local and state conservatives and leaving the line blank or choosing other if it is available by writing in “none of the above” when I get to someone who has displayed a propensity to go establishment.

Do I see the Dem winning this one come November, absolutely. Before this mess started, he was polling only 17 points behind Cochran. McConnell may well lose in his race as well so how does that portend the excuse for keeping these Maggot Farmers because of their seniority (no pun intended) vs. convictions. I see the Senate will now remain with the Democrat majority, all be it by a slimmer margin, still in their control of the rules.

Some will point to this moment as the cause, but I see it as merely the end to a means for the establishment. Party affiliation is only what side of the field you are on. The game is the same for them all.

Without a doubt, without a doubt. This was personal for Haely, who by the way is/was a partner in several ventures with Terry McCauliffe, including a point/counterpoint pundit team who would strategize in the green rooms before going on camera to yell at each other.

Read “This Town” but you will want to wear rubber gloves. Haley’s inside connections are explained in detail in it.
