Detroit groups reach out to UN as water customers are tapped out
Fox News ^ | Published June 24, 2014

A coalition of activist groups took the rare step Monday and appealed to the United Nations over reports that cash-strapped residents in Detroit are being left without access to water.

The appeal to the U.N.’s special rapporteur comes after reports that nearly half of the Detroit Water and Sewerage customers are delinquent on their bills and owe the department about $118 million. The department has reportedly started shutting off water to these delinquent customers.

Beside the amount due, the city council last week approved higher rates for customers by more than $5 per month, The Detroit Free Press reported. Those additional funds would help repair the antiquated system, the department said.

The UN?? This is liberalism reductio ad absurdum. Liberal Welfare State / Socialist policies have completely looted the city of any productive enterprise, bankrupted it and caused its basic services to collapse. So what is the answer? An appeal to the World community to somehow make someone fix the water system and provide it for free to the population.

Margaret Thatcher said that Socialism ends when it runs out of other people’s money. I guess the Socialists of Detroit have one last card to play before their brand of Socialism truly collapses.

We’re having a third world outbreak here.
It will spread aggressively if not treated immediately.

Detroit..the FIRST U.S. City to look for UN AID!!

Befitting their “progressive” politics...but so tragic nonetheless...

Evidently Barry already turned them down??

Detroit: “Socialism hasn’t worked. Let’s try MORE Socialism!”

That reminds me of that old carpenters joke: I cut it twice and it’s still too short! lol

These idiots are fully capable of paying their water bills, they simply choose not to.

Cincinnati isn’t far behind. High taxes and heavy regulation chase businesses out of town, so jobs disappear and property values decline, resulting in even less revenue for the city. The city responds by hiking taxes up even further, making even more people vote with their feet.

A lot of American cities are as devastated as cities bombed in world war two, with the exception that nobody is rebuilding them.

If I didn’t have any water and could get no help, even if I was a rabid liberal I would ask; “why can my gov’t afford to spend so much money helping all the illegal aliens and not help me?”.

There is an old saying in the west;
“Whiskey is for drinking. Water is for fighting over.”

Looks like the west is moving east.

The Rats will probably federalize the water system and provide it at no cost in exchange for votes. Most people who vote Dem are bought and paid for with some kind of government benefit.

Of course they can pay it.....they are just waiting for the government (read you and me) to pay it out of Obama’s stash.

Perhaps we should move the UN out of New York and relocate them in the most dilapidated part of Detroit. They could become a sort of “Vatican City.”

To the United Nations? Not the state of Michigan, not other cities or states, not the United States or even Canada next door, but the freaking United Nations?

Makes sense actually. The UN is good at sending humanitarian aid to hell-hole third world locations.

Perhaps the UN won’t be able to get the water turned on again, but at least they can do what they usually do - set up underage prostitution rings, spend craploads of US taxpayer money on fine restaurants (if Detroit has any) and loot any aid money they bring with them.

It’s terrifying to realize that most people in Detroit actually believe that he has one.

Heck, he even believes it himself, the Fed is an ATM for this spendthrift government.

They’ve said they know they can pay it, because when they shut it off, they receive payment in full to get it turned back on.

The people just don’t WANT to pay for it.
