Schubert: Octet in F, D. 803, third movement

There was no way Schubert could have heard the call-and-response, antiphonal music of a black church, but he manages to create its sound in an uncanny fashion.

This scherzo in F Major is marked “allegro vivace”, and it’s full of high spirits. For those interested, the format is AA-BB-CC-DD-AB. Note the juicy clarinet parts that Frannie wrote for Troyer.
